Ho Chi Minh City will build Can Gio bridge, expand Rung Sac road and bridges on the route, build an elevated road along Rung Sac road, etc. to connect with the project of Can Gio international transshipment port with nearly 5,5 billion USD.
The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City a research project to build Can Gio international transshipment port.
Accordingly, in terms of port connection traffic, from now to 2030, the city will invest in building Can Gio bridge connecting Nha Be district to Can Gio district. The bridge is expected to be more than 3,6 km long with 6 lanes, the total project investment is nearly 10.000 billion VND, invested in the method of PPP.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is organizing a pre-feasibility study report for the project to submit to the competent authorities for approval of the investment policy this year.
In the period of 2023 - 2024, the transport sector of Ho Chi Minh City organizes to prepare a feasibility study report and select an investor to start the construction of Can Gio Bridge in 2025 and complete it in 2028.
In addition to Can Gio Bridge, the city's transport sector plans to invest in building an intersection of Rung Sac road with Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway in Binh Khanh commune. At the same time, the bridges on Rung Sac road are also upgraded and expanded.
In the period after 2030, the city will invest in building a road connecting from the construction site of Can Gio international transshipment port to Rung Sac road.
Notably, the city plans to invest in building an elevated road along Rung Sac road, from the intersection of Rung Sac road with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway to the intersection connecting the port in Long Hoa commune.
The city's transport sector also researches and develops, forming an urban railway along Rung Sac road connecting from Can Gio coastal urban area with Metro line 4 in Nha Be district.
According to the scheme, the location of Can Gio international transshipment port is at Cu Lao Con Cho area (Thanh An commune, Can Gio district). The project has a scale of 7 km of wharves and 2 km of barge berths with a land use demand of about 571 ha.
Therefore, Can Gio international transshipment port can receive the world's largest container ship of 250.000 DWT (equivalent to 24.000 TEUs - one TEUs is equivalent to a 20-foot container), transshipment ships with a tonnage of 10.000 - 65.000 tons and barges loaded in 8.000 tons.
Can Gio international transshipment port is expected to be divided into 7 stages of implementation, in which, the first phase will be exploited before 1 and the last phase will be completed in 2030.
The total cargo throughput capacity of the port is expected to reach 4,8 million TEUs in 2030, and gradually grow to 16,9 million TEUs when the project operates at full capacity (expected in 2047).
The total investment of this super port is estimated at nearly 129.000 billion VND - equivalent to more than 5,45 billion USD, arranged by the investor himself.
