“Children in the Mist” won the most important category
On the evening of May 13, the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony of the first Danang Asian Film Festival 5 (DANAFF I) took place in Da Nang City.
Director Ha Le Diem of the movie "Children in the Mist" received the Best Asian Film Award
The documentary film "Children in the Mist" (English title: "Children of the Mist") by Vietnamese director Ha Le Diem has surpassed 11 works and was named in the most important category - the Best Asian Film award. She received a prize of 5.000 USD (about 116 million VND).
This is a documentary about the lost childhood of Di - a girl from the Mong ethnic group. The film follows a direct documentary style, is filmed by the director himself and experiences life with a Hmong family.
Previously, the film was shortlisted for the top 15 best documentaries of the Oscar 2023, and participated in more than 100 film festivals around the world, and was released in theaters in the US, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Singapore.
On the stage receiving the award, director Ha Le Diem expressed: "I want to thank Ma Thi Di who is my main character, all my friends in the Hmong community. Today, I wore a dress made by Di herself.
I would like to thank my producers who followed me from 2017 to 2021 to complete the film. Thank you to my friends at TPD Cinema Talent Development Support Center for trusting me.”
Hari Won shared when replacing her husband - Tran Thanh received the Vietnamese film's Best Director award
The movie "Mrs. Nu's House" helped Tran Thanh win the Vietnamese Film Best Director award. He overcame artists such as Aaron Toronto (film "Brilliant Night"), Ngo Thanh Van (film "Thanh Wolf") to win. Actor Hari Won - Tran Thanh's wife, went on stage to receive the award on behalf of her husband.
On stage to receive the award, Hari Won said that the reason Tran Thanh was absent was because he was filming a TV show.
“My husband said: Husband and wife are one, if you can't go, I will go with you to take care of the group and pay for the group. My husband worked hard at filming, but when he got home, he still handed over all the work and didn't let me sleep. Thanks to lack of sleep, now I receive gifts for my husband, my difficulties are also compensated. Thank you very much!", said Tran Thanh's wife.

The closing ceremony and award ceremony of DANAFF1 witnessed consecutive victories of the film crew "Brilliant Night" in 4 categories of Vietnamese films, including: Excellent Screenplay (writers Nha Uyen and Aaron Toronto); Best Actress (Nha Uyen); Best Actor (Huynh Kien An) and Special Prize of the Vietnam Film Jury.
On stage, director Aaron Toronto thanked the program organizers and called his wife's name with an emotional share: "Oi, I did it!".

The first Danang Asian Film Festival 2023 will take place from May 9 to 13 in Da Nang, with the theme "DANAFF - Asian Bridge".
The event aims to honor excellent cinematographic works, rich in human values, with new discoveries and unique artistic expression of Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region. Two categories for the competition are Asian Films and Vietnamese Films.
Within the framework of the event, the organizers show free movies to the audience at theaters and outdoor spaces (APEC square).
In addition to awarding prizes, the Film Festival organizes many seminars to gather experts to discuss the impact of cinema.
