Fashion designer Cuong Dam released a collection of photos inspired by mathematics to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th.

Cuong Dam invited his parents – two teachers at Tu Son Secondary School in Bac Ninh – to be models for the photo series. The designer said his parents have taught mathematics for over 40 years and are about to retire. "The photo series is a beautiful memento that I want to preserve for them before they both say goodbye to their familiar school, as well as to express my gratitude to their teachers," he said.

Ms. Dam Mai Chi wore an oversized dress paired with a shirt inspired by geometric shapes in mathematics.
According to Cuong Dam, mathematics is present in many aspects of life: the proportions of an outfit, architectural lines, the laws of the universe. He said: "Amidst the seemingly dry numbers, symbols, and shapes of mathematics, life and love were born. It's like the story of my parents' careers and their love story; they met in teacher training college, felt a connection, and bonded through mathematical equations."

Mr. Dam Ngoc Oanh wore a suit paired with a circular shield inspired by blackboards and chalk, blending a futuristic feel.

The moment the designer's parents held hands symbolized the strong connection between mathematical equations, and also represented the intermingling of two souls, sharing a common emotional resonance upon meeting.

To refresh his classic suit, Cuong Dam used details from his father's leather briefcase, attaching them to the outfit.

At nearly 60 years old, Ms. Mai and Mr. Oanh experienced being photo models for the first time, spending an entire day in a studio. Cuong Dam said the most difficult part of this project was convincing his parents to participate. Initially, his father flatly refused. After his son patiently persuaded him, he finally agreed.

The 10 kg black shift dress is adorned with hundreds of white chalk beads along its length, creating a unique shape and striking color contrast.

Ms. Mai said that the heavy costume made it difficult for her to act naturally. But seeing her son and the crew constantly adjusting the lighting, arranging, and coordinating, she gained more motivation to take the photos.

The photo series also features students from Tu Son Secondary School.

Besides the white sequined dress, Ms. Mai also wore an A-line dress with circular eyelets.
Cuong Dam was born in 1990 in Hanoi and graduated from the University of Architecture and the London Academy of Design and Fashion. He rose to prominence with his shows, Inflowing and Rendezvous . Cuong Dam's designs are strongly influenced by architecture through their form and structure, aiming for a luxurious style suitable for various occasions.
