Causing division and weakening nations.
Extreme nationalism, or narrow-minded nationalism, is an ideological tendency that absolutizes the value of one's own nation, placing it at the highest position in the entire value system. This leads to xenophobia, arrogance, prejudice, discrimination, hatred, and distrust of other nations, and a willingness to harm them. On the international stage, extreme nationalism easily leads to isolationism, parochialism, selfishness, and opposition to international cooperation, integration, and even promotes war and aggression. Therefore, it hinders international interaction and cooperation, and erodes strategic trust between nations.
In every country, extreme nationalism and narrow-minded nationalist ideology prioritize the localized interests of each ethnic group, dividing national unity and solidarity. For example, in Vietnam, there are conspiracies to incite ethnic minorities like the Hmong and Khmer to abandon the common interests of the Vietnamese nation and demand the establishment of "separate states"... The purpose of inciting narrow-minded nationalism is to divide our country into many regions and autonomous areas for ethnic minorities, independent of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and instead controlled by reactionary political forces. Driven and facilitated by hostile forces, those who follow extreme nationalism will stop at nothing. Initially, they will demand the restoration of political, economic, cultural, and social rights; then, at a higher level, they will incite riots, overthrow the government, demand national autonomy, and finally, demand secession to establish their own separate nation.
If successfully implemented, such a scheme would cause socio-political instability, even creating the risk of conflict, weakening the Vietnamese nation from a national perspective, and adversely affecting the existence and development of the 54 ethnic groups. Thus, extreme nationalism and narrow-minded nationalism not only negatively impact the development of a nation as a country but also hinder the existence and development of ethnic groups as distinct communities.
To cause animosity and confrontation between nations.
In international relations, external forces always seek to incite animosity between the Vietnamese people and neighboring countries for their own gain. It is evident that in Vietnamese society, due to the toxic influence of online information, a class of people is forming who are highly prejudiced and narrow-minded in their perception and evaluation of the nations and countries with which Vietnam has diplomatic relations. According to their prejudiced and naive viewpoint, some nations and countries are automatically considered "evil," "to be abandoned," and must be confronted, while others are automatically considered "good," "to be followed," and should be allied with. During diplomatic events between Vietnam and China, there are always subversive plots aimed at inciting extremist and narrow-minded nationalist views and ideologies. Many people deliberately distort routine and positive diplomatic events into heated issues, intentionally manipulating public opinion into the dangerous misconception that Vietnam is "dependent on China" and "selling off its maritime sovereignty to China." Economic and social activities between Vietnam and China are essential, as China is a neighboring country with convenient transportation links and is one of the two largest economies in the world. However, despite this obvious need, narrow-minded, extremist nationalists still refuse to understand, oppose, and make the unreasonable demand of "breaking free from China" both politically and economically.
On occasions commemorating the battles to defend the northern border of the Fatherland, and the issue of protecting Vietnam's maritime sovereignty and islands, false opinions have appeared on the internet claiming that the battles to defend the northern border have been forgotten. Some individuals exploit this to distort the truth, slander the government, and incite public opinion.
It is clear that the above arguments are completely wrong. Historically, Vietnamese dynasties, alongside resolutely defending sovereignty and territorial integrity, have always placed great importance on diplomatic relations and fostering good ties with neighboring countries. Today, the international environment is increasingly complex; however, this clearly demonstrates the correctness of Vietnam's foreign policy, with its "Vietnamese bamboo" diplomatic approach – choosing righteousness over sides. The issue of national interests, as clearly stated in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, is: “Ensuring the highest national interests on the basis of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, equality, cooperation, and mutual benefit. Continuing the rapid and sustainable development of the country; closely linking and synchronously implementing tasks, with socio-economic development as the central focus; Party building as the key; cultural development as the spiritual foundation; and ensuring national defense and security as a crucial and ongoing priority.”
We need to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for development.
National interests are the goals that Vietnam has always pursued to ensure its existence and development, including: maintaining sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; stabilizing the political system; ensuring security and safety for the people; preserving national cultural identity; ensuring conditions for the country's socio-economic development, and improving the lives of its people... However, these interests can only be fully achieved in a peaceful and stable environment.
It can be affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam have always paid special attention to information, propaganda, and education regarding historical events, including the battles to defend the northern border of the Fatherland, and especially to the issue of firmly protecting maritime and island sovereignty. Information, propaganda, and education always highlight the righteousness of the struggles to protect the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland; praise historical traditions, patriotism, heroism, self-reliance, self-strength, and the spirit of national unity, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the people's trust in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam; and acknowledge and express gratitude for the great contributions and heroic sacrifices of our army and people in the battles to defend the Fatherland.
However, information and propaganda on these issues are always carried out cautiously, ensuring adherence to the Party's viewpoint and respect for history, avoiding the use of history to incite extremist nationalism, and not affecting the implementation of Vietnam's foreign policy. The task of protecting maritime and island sovereignty is always carried out resolutely and persistently, but in accordance with the principle of ensuring national interests based on the fundamental principles of international law; contributing to maintaining and promoting friendly neighborly relations with neighboring countries.
With its unique geopolitical position and remarkable economic and political development, Vietnam is becoming an important country in the region and the world. Therefore, every diplomatic move by Vietnam attracts the attention of the international community, especially in the context of a world facing geopolitical crises and strong polarization among major powers. As major powers increase pressure to attract allies, smaller nations face significant pressure to choose sides. Only countries with considerable resources, skill, and fortitude can balance the situation to ensure national and ethnic interests.
Vietnam has endured many wars, and its people have shed much blood and sacrificed much in the struggle for national independence and reunification. No one can forget this painful past, and we must never be complacent or lose vigilance. However, precisely because of this, we need to cherish and preserve a peaceful and stable environment to build our country. The goal of a "prosperous people and a strong nation" can only be achieved under conditions of peace, cooperation, and solidarity among all ethnic groups for development. The conspiracy theories spread by anti-communist news sites and organizations aim to incite ethnic animosity, promote extreme and narrow-minded nationalism, disrupt the political situation, and put Vietnam in a difficult position. Therefore, everyone needs to be vigilant to recognize these insidious plots and malicious intentions to undermine international relations and hinder our country's development.
