The road up the mountain
Ngu Ho Son, popularly known as Dai Nam Gieng Mountain, is one of the seven sacred mountains, creating a unique legend of the Seven Mountains region. Although it carries the legend of sacred wells, Ngu Ho Son does not have bustling spiritual tourism activities. Mainly, locals and tourists go up the mountain to visit the "five wells" that created this name. If you have extra time, you can visit some other pilgrimage sites.
With the experience of the previous trip by motorbike not being very convenient, this time, we decided to walk up the mountain. Currently, the road up the mountain has been invested to be wider. Amidst the green of the trees after the rainy days, the road is like a white silk strip running under the fruit-bearing gardens. In the quiet space, there are only the sounds of people's footsteps and the clear chirping of a few wagtails.
Pilgrims were happy when they reached the "5 wells" on Ngu Ho Son.
A few hundred meters up from the foot of the mountain, sweat began to form on the forehead, running down into the stinging eyes. A few hundred meters further, the shirt was almost soaked. Indeed, climbing mountains by foot has never been easy, although I have experienced this feeling many times. Occasionally, we came across the camps of the people hidden among the gardens. Because their lives are closely connected to nature, they mainly set up camps to rest or store their belongings.
After climbing several steep slopes, we sat down on a rock by the roadside, panting. A local resident riding a motorbike down the mountain, seeing the scene, immediately said cheerfully: “Keep going! About 6-7 more slopes and we will reach the top of the mountain”. I burst out laughing at the saying “3 parts fun, 7 parts helpless”. However, the special thing about Dai Nam Gieng mountain is that it only slopes steeply at the beginning, when reaching the middle of the mountain, the road is quite flat, like the plains. At this time, we leisurely walked and admired the wild scenery of the mountains and forests. Indeed, only when going up to the highlands can we clearly feel the purity of nature. At this time, people’s hearts are also more comfortable with the cool, peaceful scenery.
Interesting destination
After a period of going uphill and downhill on foot, we arrived at the place with “5 wells”. From afar, we heard the voices of pilgrims. They came from Lai Vung district (Dong Thap province) to An Giang to enjoy the mountain scenery. One of the group said that their trip lasted 3 days, including: Conquering Co To mountain, Cam mountain and the final destination was Ngu Ho Son.
After the buzzing conversation, the visitors from afar began to pray very sincerely. As the saying goes, “If you worship, you will be blessed”, so everyone quietly sent their wishes to the supernatural. When they knew we were from An Giang, they were very happy and chatted openly. Perhaps that is the nature of Western people, enthusiastic and very sincere!
The "wells" on the Five Lakes Mountains
After chatting with the funny tourists, we also visited the “5 wells”. During the rainy season, the “wells” have a lot of water. I scooped up some water to feel a bit of the ancient legend. Although I don’t know the true magical effects of these “wells”, their existence has attracted many tourists from near and far for many years. According to the people living on the mountain, the location of the “5 wells” is not the highest place of Ngu Ho Son, but the Tay An Buddha Temple. In addition, there is also the Jade Emperor Temple, the Five-Lord Cave… which is also visited by many tourists for pilgrimage and worship all year round.
On the way back down, I was lucky to meet a garden owner who was growing red mulberry on the mountain. He said that in about 2 months the red mulberry season would be in full swing. At that time, the harvest atmosphere would be very busy. At that time, taking pictures would be more beautiful because of the colors of the red mulberry gardens. He happily invited me to come back at that time, to share stories about life and the specialty plant of Dai Nam Gieng mountain.
Although the trip back to Ngu Ho Son was not too long, the journey of conquest brought me positive emotions. It was the feeling of conquering myself, the relaxation in my heart when blending with nature, the joy when meeting the honest people here. Therefore, if you are an adventure enthusiast, visitors should try to come to Ngu Ho Son once to feel the unique excitement of this mountain.
