Workers' “virtual assistants”

In the past, when workers had questions about labor laws or union activities, they often sought help from union officials. But now, with the “virtual assistants” from artificial intelligence (AI) applications, these questions of workers are immediately resolved.

Timely support for workers

On weekends, the boarding house with more than 20 rooms in Tam Binh ward (HCMC) - where Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan, a garment worker, is renting a room - is bustling with laughter. Sitting and talking with his fellow tenants, Mr. Tuan and some people wondered about the regional minimum wage that will be applied from January 1, 2026.

Remembering that the company's union had just introduced the application "Virtual Assistant (AI) to support answering questions about Unions and Labor Laws" at https://ai.congdoantphochiminh.org.vn, Mr. Tuan went into the application and typed the command: I want to know about the regional minimum wage that will be applied from January 1, 2026 in the Ho Chi Minh City area. A lot of related information was quickly sent to Mr. Tuan and everyone for reference.

“Before, I only used my phone to access Zalo, Facebook, and read news online. This was the first time I used a “virtual assistant” to ask about the issues I was wondering about. The AI application’s answers were very complete and easy to understand right after I asked the question. For similar issues, I had to go to a union official to ask before,” Mr. Tuan shared.

Seeing the "virtual assistant's" answer was good and clear, the roommate asked Mr. Tuan to help him ask about labor law issues, specifically the unilateral termination of labor contracts between businesses and employees. Very quickly, the answer appeared on Mr. Tuan's phone.

Workers use “virtual assistants” to ask about issues related to life and work.

The application "Virtual Assistant (AI) to support answering questions about Trade Unions and Labor Law" has just been widely deployed by the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation (HCMC) to all grassroots unions, union members, and workers to support answering questions 24/7. The representative of the HCMC Labor Federation said that with the ability to operate continuously, the "virtual assistant" ensures that union members and workers always receive timely support, even after office hours, weekends or holidays.

On this application, workers and employees will be assisted with issues related to trade union activities, labor laws, and social insurance such as: maternity, illness, work accidents, retirement, death benefits, social insurance procedures, unemployment insurance, and occupational safety and health. The "virtual assistant" also suggests how to write an application to join a trade union, a support application, a grassroots trade union report form, etc.

Towards comprehensive digital transformation

To support union members, workers and union officials, Chau Pha Commune Union (HCMC) released an AI "virtual assistant" for office work, legal advice and personal matters.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tho, Vice Chairman of Chau Pha Commune Union, said that the "virtual assistant" set includes 18 assistants with separate functions on Google's Gemini application platform. Of which, there are 7 AI assistants supporting administrative work, 5 AI assistants supporting quick advice on legal issues, and 6 AI assistants supporting personal issues.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tho, personal support assistants will help union members and employees solve problems such as: psychological counseling for marriage and family, career counseling, learning support, parenting, developing creative ideas and improving programming skills. In particular, legal support assistants will provide documents related to legal regulations such as: Trade Union Law 2024, Labor Code, collective labor agreements, Social Insurance Law 2024, laws on marriage and family...

“Based on the idea of building free learning and consulting channels for workers, we built “virtual assistants” to help workers keep up with information in the digital age. Workers can ask any questions related to work, family, child rearing…”, Mr. Tho informed.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tho shared that these are the initial steps for a comprehensive digital transformation journey in Chau Pha commune's trade union activities. In addition, the commune's trade union also increased the deployment of the application "Virtual Assistant (AI) to support answering questions about Trade Unions and Labor Laws" of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation to union members and workers. Mr. Tho expressed his hope that every cadre, union member and worker can take advantage of technology to work effectively and study better.

Along with the “virtual assistant” to support workers, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor also launched the application “Online Trade Union Professional Handbook” at https://sotay.congdoantphochiminh.org.vn. This application is designed to support grassroots trade union officials in their daily work.

Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation Pham Trong Nhan said that the deployment of the "Professional Manual" and the "Virtual Assistant (AI) application to support answering questions about Trade Unions and Labor Laws" is a key solution in the digital transformation program of the city's trade union system. The program aims to contribute to modernizing the method of operation and improving the capacity to serve union members and workers.

These are two key applications in the 2025 digital transformation roadmap, designed with the goal of comprehensively transforming the way trade unions operate on digital platforms, aiming at each trade union official - a smart assistant; each union member and worker - to be supported promptly, anytime, anywhere.
