This has raised public concerns about school security and public safety.
According to police, numerous posts recently appeared on social media claiming that someone had planted explosives at a high school in Seo-gu District, Incheon. Approximately 930 students were given the day off for their safety.
Authorities conducted a thorough search of the school grounds but found no explosives. Preliminary investigations suggest the threatening post was sent from a server located overseas.
Authorities said similar threats have been appearing repeatedly since mid-October, warning of knife and bomb attacks. Prior to this, several prestigious universities, including Sogang University, Korea University, and Yonsei University, also received threatening emails related to improvised explosive devices.
Not only Incheon, but many other areas such as Gwangju and Asan have also reported similar incidents, with numerous schools receiving bomb threats via email and social media. Although no explosives have been found, South Korean police are treating this as a serious security issue and are cooperating with international agencies to trace the origin of these cross-border cyberattacks.
