According to the Korean National Police Agency, next year's budget plan allocates 2.7 billion won for the development of deep learning technology to detect fake content, such as deepfake documents and voice copying.
The South Korean National Police Agency will also allocate 500 million won for 2025 to upgrade its existing software program to track deepfakes and other AI-generated videos .
By 2027, 9.1 billion won will be invested in developing technology to prevent the increase in these types of crimes.
The 2025 budget plan also includes the establishment of a 1 billion won fund to reward those who provide information about organized crime, such as online gambling or scam programs.
In addition, the South Korean government will invest approximately 5.5 billion won in upgrading the state's response center for financial fraud schemes on telecommunications networks, adding a new function to block phone numbers used for scams.
In 2026, the government plans to spend 7.7 billion won on a plan to provide nearly 9,000 body-worn cameras to police officers to record crime scenes and collect evidence, and 7.6 billion won will be allocated to enhance police equipment with more advanced combat jackets, batons, and tasers.
The budget plan needs to be approved by the South Korean National Assembly .
