This is an event in which the Vietnamese swimming team has won gold medals in many SEA Games. But in the competition on the evening of December 11-12, they faced many challenges.
The four people who went into the water this time were Nguyen Viet Tuong, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, and Tran Hung Nguyen.
Among them, Nguyen Viet Tuong and Tran Van Nguyen Quoc are two completely new faces. Previously, these positions belonged to two experienced swimmers, Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son.
Meanwhile, Hung Nguyen and Huy Hoang are currently the best swimmers in the country.
The Vietnamese swimming team had a rather difficult start, at one point being overtaken by Malaysia. In the second heat, Huy Hoang tried very hard to narrow the gap with his opponent. In the final heat, Hung Nguyen made a spectacular sprint to finish the race with a time of 7 minutes 18.67 seconds.
Malaysia was not far behind, finishing in 7 minutes 19.50 seconds. Singapore came in third with a time of 7 minutes 21.13 seconds.
Also on December 11-12, "Frog Prince" Pham Thanh Bao continued his dominance by winning the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke event. In addition, Vo Thi My Tien continued to mark an unexpectedly successful SEA Games with a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley.
Up to this point, the Vietnamese swimming team has won a total of 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals at the 33rd SEA Games.
