More importantly, this victory helps the Vietnamese women's football team avoid the host nation Thailand in the semi-finals. Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will only have to face the weaker opponent Indonesia in the semi-finals on December 14th.
Securing a place in the semi-finals helped coach Mai Duc Chung relieve the stress of the past few days, following the 0-1 defeat to the Philippines on December 8th. Immediately after the match, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) awarded the Vietnamese women's football team 700 million VND.

The Vietnam U22 team was awarded 600 million VND by the VFF for reaching the semi-finals. Compared to the women's football team, the path to the semi-finals for the Vietnam U22 team was less challenging, as coach Kim Sang Sik's players only played two matches in the group stage (the women's team played three matches).
