In the event with the highest expectations for Vietnamese swimming that day, the men's 100m breaststroke, swimmer Pham Thanh Bao, nicknamed "the frog prince," finished third in the qualifying round with a time of 1 minute 3 seconds 16, behind two Singaporean athletes, Chung Ho Chan and Wei Ang.

However, when entering the decisive final race, Thanh Bao asserted his strength in his specialty event by dominating from the start and accelerating strongly, finishing first with a time of 1 minute 01 seconds 43.
This achievement helped the Vietnamese swimmer surpass Chung Ho Chan and Wei Ang to win the gold medal.
Thanh Bảo has won a total of 4 gold medals in breaststroke events (100m and 200m) in the last two SEA Games.

At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, the swimmer born in 2001 excellently won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke, and simultaneously broke the SEA Games record with a time of 1 minute 0 seconds 97.
In addition, Thanh Bao also broke the SEA Games 200m breaststroke men's record with a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds 45.
As can be seen, although he didn't break his own record, Thanh Bao's time of 1 minute 01 seconds 43 helped him win the SEA Games 100m breaststroke event for the third consecutive time.

Thus, Thanh Bao has brought home the second gold medal for Vietnamese swimming at the SEA Games 33, following Tran Hung Nguyen's achievement in the 200m individual medley on December 10th.
With his composure and consistent performance, Thanh Bao is expected to win his third consecutive SEA Games title in the men's 200m breaststroke and relay events in the upcoming days of competition.
