On December 11-12, the athletics team – which carries the highest gold medal target for the Vietnamese delegation – will compete, but the chances of any Vietnamese track and field athlete winning gold are not high.
It has been announced that Nguyen Thi Oanh will not compete in the women's 1,500m event, in order to focus on the 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, and 10,000m events.
Hope may rest on Luong Duc Phuoc, who won two silver medals in the 800m and 1500m events at the 2023 SEA Games.
Meanwhile, swimming entered its second day of competition with a series of speed events such as the men's and women's 50m backstroke, men's 500m freestyle, women's 200m freestyle, men's 100m breaststroke, and women's 200m individual medley. Most notably, taking place at the very end of the evening was the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.
The men's 4x200m freestyle relay is a specialty of the Vietnamese swimming team. Relay events are always extremely exciting and represent the strength of a swimming nation.

With their strong squad, Vietnam promises to continue creating an extremely exciting competition with Singapore in the men's relay swimming events. This is also likely to be the first event in which Huy Hoang wins a medal at this year's SEA Games.
Vietnamese swimming kicked off the day with a gold medal win on December 10th, as Hung Nguyen maintained his familiar high standard in the 200m individual medley.
Today, Pham Thanh Bao is expected to follow in Hung Nguyen's footsteps and win an individual gold medal in the 100m breaststroke event. In the last two SEA Games, Thanh Bao has won four gold medals in the breaststroke events.
In addition, athletes in canoeing, gymnastics, and martial arts are expected to continue bringing home more gold medals for Vietnam.
