After four days of qualifying rounds, the Sharm el Sheikh World Cup billiards tournament enters its most exciting round today (December 11th), featuring 32 outstanding players. In this round, Vietnam has four players: Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Thanh Luc, Bao Phuong Vinh, and Chiem Hong Thai. Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc received a bye into the round of 32 as they were ranked in the top 14. Meanwhile, Phuong Vinh and Hong Thai advanced through the fourth qualifying round.
Tran Quyet Chien is in a tough group.
Tran Quyet Chien is in Group C with Martin Horn (Germany), Riad Nady (Egypt), and Kim Haeng-jik (South Korea). In his opening match, the number one Vietnamese player will face Kim Haeng-jik at 3 PM. Tran Quyet Chien will then play again at 7 PM and 11 PM.
This is arguably a tough group for Tran Quyet Chien. Kim Haeng-jik is a strong player from South Korea. Meanwhile, Martin Horn is a long-standing rival of the player from Ha Tinh , as the two have met many times in recent tournaments. In those matches, the German player has always emerged victorious.
Tran Quyet Chien needs to play to his full potential to get through the group stage.

Bao Phuong Vinh is in Group A with Dick Jaspers (Netherlands), Pedro Piedrabuena (USA), and Soumagne (France). Phuong Vinh will play his first match against Piedrabuena at 3 PM. The subsequent matches for the player born in 1995 will take place at 7 PM and 11 PM respectively.
Tran Thanh Luc is in Group F with Tolgahan Kiraz (Türkiye), Ruben Legazpi (Spain), and Maxime Panaia (France). In his first match, Thanh Luc will face Panaia at 5 PM.
Chiêm Hồng Thái is in a very tough Group G with the presence of Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye), Jeremy Bury (France), and Cha Myeong-jong (South Korea). Hồng Thái will play at 5 PM against Bury.
In the remaining two matches, Thanh Luc and Hong Thai will both play at 9 PM and 1 AM (on December 12th).
Notably, in Group D, all four players are Belgian: Eddy Merckx, Frederic Caudron, Peter Ceulemans, and Roland Forthomme. The prodigy Caudron will play against Ceulemans at 3 PM.
