Change your mindset, get rich from your own garden.

In recent times, the movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has spread strongly. As a result, more and more farmers have boldly innovated their thinking and methods, built effective production models, and risen to become successful economic entrepreneurs.

Mr. Huynh Van Cap is a pioneering farmer who has turned the sweet pomelo variety into a local specialty.

Following the officials of the Farmers' Association of Nhon Phu commune, we visited the economic model of Mr. Truong Hoang Phuong's family (Phu Thuan A hamlet, Nhon Phu commune).

Under the canopy of Ido longan trees laden with fruit, Mr. Truong Hoang Phuong proudly showed us his model of longan cultivation combined with ecotourism, which has brought a comfortable life to his family.

Leading us on a tour of his orchard, which is cultivated to produce a continuous harvest of ripe longan fruit, Mr. Phuong shared: "What tourists enjoy most is being able to pick the fruit themselves and eat it on the spot. As a farmer, I'm very happy to be able to provide them with such an experience."

Before 2017, his family was involved in brick manufacturing. When the business declined, he boldly decided to change direction.

What seemed like a simple decision actually took him over a year of research and careful planning. After consulting many models, he chose the Ido variety because it's easy to care for, has high yields, and produces quality fruit. Initially, he planted it on a trial basis on an area of 10,000m².

Seeing the clear positive results, he expanded by another 5,000 square meters, creating a lush, wide-canopied longan orchard that bears fruit in every season.

Recognizing the advantages of the garden space, Mr. Phuong began creating additional landscape features, planting purple longan trees to add a unique touch, and offering food and drinks for visitors to enjoy. He prioritizes the use of organic fertilizer to ensure the longan fruit is naturally delicious, sweet, safe, and has a long shelf life, giving visitors peace of mind.

Thanks to his perseverance and eagerness to learn, his model gradually stabilized and generated high income. "In anything, if you are determined and pursue it to the end, you will reap the rewards. Some years, the garden brings in up to a billion dong," Mr. Phuong shared.

Each story of overcoming hardship to become wealthy is a journey full of effort, demonstrating the enduring vitality and indomitable spirit of today's farmers. A prime example is Mr. Huynh Van Cap, a pioneer in making the sweet pomelo variety a local specialty.

From the early days when he was only familiar with the sour star fruit variety – a fruit that was difficult to sell and had low economic value – he diligently researched and successfully selected a sweet star fruit variety, which not only suits consumer tastes but also increases economic value many times over. Furthermore, each year he supplies more than 10,000 seedlings to the market, contributing to making sweet star fruit cultivation a sustainable business for local people.

He also established the Dong Thanh-Binh Minh Sweet Tea Cooperative with 25 members, whose products are grown according to VietGAP standards, have a traceability system for crops, and are a 4-star OCOP product...

With his persistent contributions to pomelo cultivation, from researching varieties to supporting local people in developing their economy, he has not only improved his family's income but also become a model of a successful farmer and businessman.

Not only do successful farmers enrich their own families, but they also inspire many other farmers to boldly innovate and strive to become wealthy right on their homeland. This has led to the emergence of "Millionaire Farmers Club" models.

Currently, the province has 11 Billionaire Farmers' Clubs with over 520 members, which have been recognized and highly appreciated by the Central Farmers' Association and the Party Committee and government; and have been studied, applied, and replicated by provinces and cities nationwide.

As an outstanding Vietnamese farmer in 2021, Mr. Dang Van Bay (Thanh Phong commune) shared: “I believe that the Billionaire Farmers Club is a model that has breathed new life into the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty in localities.”

This also serves as a foundation for effectively uniting and gathering farmers, developing new members, building collective economic models, establishing professional farmers' associations and branches, and adding members to clubs of millionaire farmers; thereby strengthening the work of the association and the farmers' movement from the grassroots level.
