'Flowers on the Streets' Exhibition: A Harmony of the Mountains and Forests

A touch of mist in the fragrance of wild sunflowers in the highlands, a shy breath of a mountain girl, and a hint of memories of golden afternoons at the end of the year on the hillsides—all these elements combine to create the artistic essence of three painters: Anh Đào, Hoàng Duyên, and Đỗ My.

On the afternoon of December 13th, at Maii Art Gallery (72/7 Tran Quoc Toan Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the exhibition "Flowers on the Streets" by three female artists: Anh Dao, Hoang Duyen, and Do My will open. The artists have brought a unique selection of works from the highlands to Ho Chi Minh City, depicting the blooming seasons from their memories – where the afternoon breeze, mountain mist, and the golden hues of wild sunflowers transform into inner inspiration.

The "Flowers on the Street" exhibition is gentle yet not bland, tranquil yet not static, like a slow stroll amidst the hurried movements of modern life.

Flowers on the Street: 3 voices singing a harmonious blend of mountain and forest melodies.

Sharing the same theme of still life flowers, the three artists chose three different materials: oil paint, colored wood carving, and fabric collage. Curator Phan Trọng Văn noted that this diversity complemented each other, stating: "This is what creates three distinct visual nuances – like three voices resonating in a mountain and forest symphony."

"If Anh Dao's oil paintings are not boisterous, with soft colors, thin layers of color blending, and restrained, gentle brushstrokes, reflecting the artist's philosophy of 'painting flowers as if it were her own gentle life in the mountains,' then with woodblock printing, Hoang Duyen approaches flowers not by 'looking,' but by 'listening.' Woodblock printing is inherently structural and restrained, but Duyen softens it. As for Do My, her collage of fabric scraps follows a completely different rhythm – youthful, fresh, and very real. She gathers scraps of fabric: worn corners, old threads, colors faded over the years… and then assembles them into flowers," curator Phan Trong Van commented.
