About the exhibition, poet Le Minh Quoc said: " Chinh phu ngam" by artist Ngoc Mai brings to the public the matchmaking of soulmates from Dang Tran Con to Doan Thi Diem: together entangled with the word "duyen" . It is the fate of poetic language from the Chinese version to Nom script. This fate, artist Ngoc Mai expresses with the soft, delicate material of silk, also a way to reflect the melody and images from the original poem.
Soldier's Wife Soaked in Silk: Drawing sympathy for the sufferings of the soldier's wife
The reason for this exhibition, according to artist Ngoc Mai: "Since childhood, when I sat down to draw portraits for my friends, I told myself that when I grew up, I would draw about the two poetry collections Kim Van Kieu and Chinh Phu Ngam . In 1999, I started to realize this intention by sketching the Kieu silk paintings, and it took me 12 years to complete them. In 2011, I exhibited the Kieu silk paintings and printed a book as a souvenir. Thanks to that, I was also recognized by the center as the Record holder for drawing the most Kieu silk paintings. In September 2020, to commemorate the death anniversary of the great poet Nguyen Du, the painting Cung zither bac menh in my Kieu silk paintings was stamped and released in France."

"When looking at a painting, not only looking at the colors, I think it's also the time to listen to the melody of the poem. According to artist Ngoc Mai: "In Chinh Phu Ngam , the image of the soldier's wife is a noble classical image, representing the qualities of Vietnamese women. The entire Chinh Phu Ngam is a long poem with the soldier's wife's longing, anxiety, loneliness, expectation, bitterness and desire for love. I sympathize with the soldier's wife's suffering, so I borrowed brushstrokes and colors to express these feelings. I always wondered how to paint a picture that expressed loneliness, boredom, and not wanting to wear makeup, and why would a woman wear makeup when her husband was not by her side?"
