On the afternoon of December 10th, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team played their first match in Group B of the SEA Games 33. Their opponent was Myanmar, a team with a significantly lower skill level.
Therefore, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet didn't need to field his strongest lineup to still win 3-0. Many of the team's reserve players had the opportunity to play and experience the SEA Games atmosphere.
Most notably, Bui Thi Anh Thao, the main hitter, is only 16 years old this year. Not only is this her first time participating in the SEA Games, but this is also her first official match in the national team's jersey.

Against Myanmar, Anh Thao delivered a "10 out of 10" performance. In reality, she only scored 9 points in that match, including 1 block. But the 10 points are for her overall performance.
Besides scoring points, Anh Thao also made some good blocks, limiting the opponent's attacking opportunities. She also had some accurate first-touch receptions, thereby creating opportunities for the whole team.
Of course, Myanmar isn't a very strong opponent, so this is a good opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills. But at the age of 16, a performance like this is already outstanding.

This year, Anh Thao has risen to become a notable name in women's volleyball. She shone while playing for Hanoi Club, helping the team gain promotion to the National Championship.
In addition, Anh Thao also participated in the Women's U21 World Volleyball Championship and was one of the top scorers for the Vietnamese U21 women's volleyball team.
Ahead of the SEA Games, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet summoned Anh Thao along with many other U21 athletes. Everyone knows this was done to divide the team for easier training.
No one thought a young athlete like Anh Thao would end up on the SEA Games roster . Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet boldly left out Hoang Hong Hanh, who had played well for Hoa Chat Duc Giang Lao Cai last year. This caused considerable controversy. But Anh Thao has temporarily calmed the controversy after her match against Myanmar today.
