Both Vietnamese athletes, Ha Thi Thu and Hoang Du Y, qualified for the 100m final. However, due to Du Y's injury, she had to withdraw, leaving all hopes for a medal in this short-distance event on Ha Thi Thu. After the era of Vu Thi Huong and Le Tu Chinh, Vietnamese athletics has not been able to compete with regional rivals. Therefore, any medal in the women's 100m event is extremely valuable.

Ha Thi Thu made a last-ditch effort to sprint in the final meters.

That's why Ha Thi Thu appeared sad, disappointed, and quietly left the track. According to the initial results, Thu finished 4th with a time of 11.58 seconds. However, the organizers later changed the results. Thu's time remained the same, but she was moved up to 3rd place. The reason was that the Filipino athlete, Knott Marie, was moved from 1st place (11.31 seconds) to 6th place (11.71 seconds). A Thanh Nien reporter contacted the organizers to find out the reason, and the answer received was "due to a technical error" in the system.

According to the initial results, Ha Thi Thu only ranked 4th.
