SEA Games 33 Medal Standings: Vietnam Rises to Second Place

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Vietnamese sports delegation had a relatively successful second day of competition, winning 10 gold medals to move up to second place in the overall medal standings of the SEA Games 33 after December 11th.

On the second day of competition at the 33rd SEA Games, the Thai sports delegation continued to assert its position as the host nation by winning an additional 22 gold medals, further solidifying its lead in the overall medal standings.

As of 11 PM on December 11th, Thailand had won a total of 79 medals, including 41 gold medals, 24 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals. Thailand's gold medal tally continued to be superior on the second day of competition, with the host nation's athletes bringing home a total of 22 gold medals.

Notably, the Vietnamese sports delegation also had a successful day of competition, winning 10 more gold medals, bringing their total to 14 after two days of competition. In total, Vietnam has won 49 medals, including 14 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze.

The Vietnamese athletics and swimming teams made a significant contribution, winning 4 out of the 10 gold medals on the second day of competition. Specifically, athlete Ho Trong Manh Hung won the gold medal in the men's triple sprint; athlete Bui Thi Ngan won the gold medal in the women's 1500m race; Pham Thanh Bao won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke; and athletes Nguyen Viet Tuong, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, and Tran Hung Nguyen jointly won the gold medal in the men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay.

The remaining gold medals went to the "quartet" of Nguyen Thi Phuong, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Bui Ngoc Nhi, and Hoang Thi Thu Uyen in the women's team kata event in Karate; and athlete Nguyen Hong Trong won the gold medal in the men's 54kg Taekwondo category.

Athlete Dang Dinh Tung won the gold medal in the men's 69kg Ju-jitsu-Ne-waza event; athlete Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien won the gold medal in the pommel horse event in gymnastics; and athlete Nguyen Van Khanh Phong won the gold medal in the rings event in gymnastics.

Notably, fighter Nguyen Ngoc Luong also defeated Alfiandi of Indonesia in the final of the men's 60kg modern MMA event. However, his gold medal was not included in the overall medal tally of the Vietnamese sports delegation because MMA is not counted in the medal standings.

Good news for the Vietnamese sports delegation on December 11th: both the men's and women's football teams won their final matches to secure their places in the semi-finals. Specifically, the U22 Vietnam team defeated U22 Malaysia 2-0, while the women's Vietnam team also won against Myanmar with the same score to advance to the semi-finals.

Returning to the medal standings after two days of competition, the Indonesian team is ranked 3rd, trailing Vietnam by only one gold medal, and has won 20 silver and 13 bronze medals. The following positions are held by Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Laos. Notably, two teams, Brunei and Timor-Leste, have yet to win any gold medals.

Tomorrow (December 12th), 58 more gold medals will be awarded at the 33rd SEA Games, and the Vietnamese sports delegation is expected to continue increasing its number of gold medals on the overall medal table.
