Memorial monument to the heroic martyrs at the Museum of the Armed Forces of Viet Bac - Military Region 1. |
At the center of the memorial house stands a meticulously crafted monolithic stone stele, inscribed with the names of officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 who sacrificed their lives throughout various periods. Each name tells a story of courage, a testament to the unwavering loyalty and indomitable spirit of the people of Viet Bac throughout the struggle for national liberation and the protection of the sacred independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland... Many battles have gone down in history, such as Dong Khe, That Khe, and the Border Campaign of 1950; many young soldiers fell in the hot spots of the Cao Bang and Lang Son borders during those fierce years. Alongside these are the silent sacrifices of the engineering, reconnaissance, chemical, and militia forces of the localities... All of this has created the glorious tradition of "Loyalty - Pioneering - Unity - Victory" of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1.
The memorial site has become a familiar place for cadres, soldiers, and the people, especially the relatives of martyrs. On holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27), many delegations and families from various provinces and cities come to offer incense, search for the names of their loved ones, and reminisce.
Veteran Bui Tri Vinh (born in 1954, residing in Dong Kinh ward, Lang Son province) was deeply moved as he lit incense to commemorate his 13 comrades who sacrificed their lives in the 1979 battle to defend the northern border of the Fatherland, and over 24,200 other martyrs from various units of the Military Region. Before the spirits of the heroic martyrs, he respectfully offered incense, expressing his profound respect and boundless gratitude to the martyrs, his courageous and indomitable comrades who selflessly sacrificed their lives and youth for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and for the happiness of the people. Mr. Vinh confided: “I am moved that the memorial has been built, and proud that the names of my comrades are engraved on this monument. From now on, they will regularly be visited by the people, their relatives, comrades, and tourists who will remember their contributions.”
Colonel Dinh Van Giam, Director of the Viet Bac Armed Forces Museum - Military Region 1, stated: "The memorial monument to the heroic martyrs at the Viet Bac Armed Forces Museum - Military Region 1 is a sacred symbol of the patriotic tradition, gratitude, and immortal revolutionary spirit. The structure holds both historical significance and profound humanistic value, serving as a place for present generations to remember the contributions of those who have fallen, and as a spiritual anchor for the Armed Forces of the Military Region to continue to grow and live up to the trust of the Party, the State, and the people."
