On the morning of December 11th, in Hanoi, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defense , received Admiral Saito Akira, Commander of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that Vietnam and Japan have a long-standing friendly relationship and share many similarities in culture, customs, and traditions.
Particularly in the year marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (2023), the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world; creating momentum to further promote bilateral relations in various fields, including defense cooperation.
According to General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation is constantly expanding, becoming increasingly in-depth and substantive; it is one of the important pillars in the bilateral relationship, through outstanding cooperation contents such as exchange of delegations, contacts at all levels, especially at the high level; cooperation between military branches; human resource training; cybersecurity; and addressing the consequences of war...
The General highly appreciated the positive and effective results of cooperation between the Vietnam Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in recent times, focusing on areas such as (exchange of delegations at all levels; cooperation in training, experience exchange; organization of Naval Staff Officer Consultations; mutual ship visits; participation in international multilateral conferences, seminars, and events organized by each side...) contributing to improving professional and technical skills and strengthening friendly relations, learning, and mutual understanding between the two forces.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that the leaders of the Ministry of National Defence and the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army will always support and create favorable conditions for the navies of the two countries to strengthen effective and substantive cooperation.
The General expressed confidence that, with the foundation built over the past decades, along with the high level of consensus and agreement, as well as the continuous efforts of the leaders and people of both countries, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan will continue to develop in all fields in accordance with the common aspirations and interests of the people of both countries; making a positive contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
Admiral Saito Akira highly appreciated the bilateral cooperation, including cooperation between the Ministries of Defense of Japan and Vietnam. Admiral Saito Akira expressed strong agreement with the opinions of General Nguyen Tan Cuong; and hoped that the cooperative relationship between the Ministries of Defense of the two countries in general, and between the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Vietnam Navy in particular, would develop even more deeply.
