Vietnam has a long-standing tradition of traditional medicine, rooted in the philosophy of "Vietnamese medicine for Vietnamese people," and is associated with the names of many great physicians who have left behind valuable books and remedies for future generations to preserve, inherit, and develop.
Within that tradition, the renowned physician Hoang Nguyen Cat - a native of Nghe An province in the 18th century - is one of the prominent figures with his valuable and highly effective remedies for the health care of King Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty's Imperial Medical Institute.
Associate Professor Dau Xuan Canh - President of the Vietnam Traditional Medicine Association - emphasized this at the National Scientific Conference on the important topic of the life and career of physician Hoang Nguyen Cat and the valuable and highly effective remedies for the health care of King Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty's Imperial Medical Institute, held on December 11th in Hanoi.
According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Traditional Medicine Association , throughout nearly half a century of practice, physician Hoang Nguyen Cat devoted his efforts to compiling the book "Quy Vien Family Studies," consisting of about 11 volumes, more than 1,000 pages thick, considered a "comprehensive medical encyclopedia" with complete sections on: medical ethics, medical theory, pharmacology, prescriptions, pathology and case studies, and clinical experience.
This is an opportunity for experts to conduct an in-depth assessment of the academic and practical value of the works and remedies left behind by physician Hoang Nguyen Cat, especially the work "Quy Vien Family Studies." This work is considered a precious treasure, containing the essence of health preservation, treatment, and medicine prescriptions in the royal court, and needs to be standardized and transferred to modern traditional medicine.
The workshop laid the scientific foundation for researching, restoring, and promoting the medical heritage of the Nguyen Dynasty's Imperial Medical Institute in the contemporary context, offering important suggestions for applying valuable and highly effective remedies to community health care, and contributing to the preservation and development of the country's rare medicinal resources.
In recent years, with the attention of all levels, especially Nghe An province, the book "Quy Vien Family Studies" has been collected, translated, edited, and published, becoming a valuable resource for research, training, and treatment using traditional medicine, as well as a basis for selecting, standardizing, and applying some medicinal recipes in practice.
Also within the framework of the event, the Vietnam Traditional Medicine Association organized the Ceremony to honor outstanding traditional medicine practitioners and outstanding traditional medicine clinics/treatment centers nationwide, second phase of 2025.
