On December 11th, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, Pham Hung Tam, attended and spoke at the Advisory Board Meeting of the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute (AVPI).

The conference was held online with the participation of the entire AVPI Advisory Board, including representatives from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, RMIT University (the parent institution of AVPI), pioneering entrepreneur Louise Adams (who has been tasked by the Australian Government with promoting investment and trade between Australia and Vietnam), and Asia Society Australia (a leading global consulting organization from Australia).

According to the VNA correspondent in Sydney, speaking at the conference, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam congratulated AVPI on a successful year of operation, especially with the opening of the AVPI office in Hanoi last September during the visit of the Governor-General of Australia, Sam Mostyn.

According to the Ambassador, the conference took place at a crucial time in Vietnam-Australia relations, as the two countries had just completed the first year of the Action Program for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2024-2027 with impressive results (98% of the 180 action items were completed or implemented on schedule), opening up opportunities for more ambitious plans.

Based on that, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam proposed several priority activities for the coming year, such as strengthening high-level and other visits between the two countries, organizing bilateral trade and investment promotion events, holding the first Dialogue between the Ministers of Energy and Resources of the two countries, coordinating tourism promotion through cultural exchange activities, including a planned tour of Hue Royal Court Music Ensemble to Australia in February 2026...

Established in 2022, AVPI serves as a platform for exchanging ideas among Australian businesses, government organizations, non-profits, universities, and academics regarding Vietnam. AVPI acts as a platform for policy discussions between the two countries, focusing on the latest research and knowledge regarding bilateral strategic and economic relations.

In March 2024, the AVPI Advisory Board was established, responsible for advising on the strategic direction of AVPI's activities and promoting exchange and trade between Australia and Vietnam. The Advisory Board includes representatives from various economic sectors, academics, and Australian government agencies.
