Ho Chi Minh City has become a reliable and attractive destination for unicorns.

On December 11th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology and Canva – a leading global online design platform and technology unicorn (based in New South Wales, Australia) – signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

The collaborative program focuses on training and disseminating digital skills and creative thinking to teachers, students, startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the design and content creation community.

The goal is to give all stakeholders in the ecosystem the opportunity to access world-class tools and competency standards right here in Ho Chi Minh City.

The implementation of specific activities will help strengthen and elevate the city's innovation ecosystem, aiming to attract more technology unicorns and large corporations from around the world to collaborate and invest in product development.

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, stated that the event demonstrates that the city is not only home to domestic technology unicorns but also a reliable and attractive destination for international technology unicorns. Ho Chi Minh City boasts a vibrant startup ecosystem, a workforce of intellectuals, entrepreneurs, technology experts, and a highly creative youth. This is a crucial foundation for developing globally competitive technology products and services. The city is entering a new phase of development with the aspiration to become a leading innovation and technology hub in the region.

The collaboration between the City's Department of Science and Technology and the tech unicorn Canva is one of the concrete activities contributing to realizing that aspiration.

The strategic cooperation between the two sides will contribute to the formation of a strong digital innovation environment, the development of high-quality human resources, the promotion of comprehensive digital transformation, the enhancement of the city's competitiveness on the global technology map, and the opening of many opportunities for sustainable international cooperation and investment.

Ho Chi Minh City affirms its determination to strengthen the attraction of innovative technology businesses and international partners, creating a space for connection, sharing, and interaction for diverse and high-quality innovative resources.

The collaboration of leading international businesses and organizations will contribute to the sustainable development of the city's innovation ecosystem, accelerate the digital transformation process, and create many practical socio-economic values for the community.

This cooperation program is part of a multilateral partnership between Ho Chi Minh City and the state of New South Wales, Australia, with a shared vision of using technology, innovation, and digital transformation as a foundation to promote trade, investment, education, and the development of high-quality human resources.

Ms. Sarah Hooper, Consul-General of Australia in Ho Chi Minh City, stated that Australia's strengths in technology, the digital economy, and research and development form the foundation of its international partnerships. Support for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation is one of the six pillars of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The collaboration between Canva and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology demonstrates that the shared vision for cooperation between the two countries is becoming a reality.

Ms. Elle Liu, Country Director of Canva Vietnam, shared that as a global creative platform with nearly 300 million users and over 30 billion designs created, Canva chose Ho Chi Minh City because of its dynamic innovation ecosystem. Canva is committed to a long-term partnership with Ho Chi Minh City in developing high-quality creative human resources.
