Dubbed the "Silicon Valley of Korea," Pangyo Techno Valley is emerging as one of Asia's most dynamic innovation hubs, home to over 1,600 high-tech companies, tens of thousands of R&D professionals, and a complete startup support ecosystem encompassing incubation, commercialization, and global expansion.
During the Pangyo Global Media Meetup 2025 event held in Seoul, a VietnamPlus reporter had a direct interview with Mr. Sang Sung Lee, Team Leader and Management Consultant at Gyeonggi Business & Science Accelerator (GBSA), the operator of Pangyo Techno Valley. Mr. Lee emphasized that Vietnam is one of the top priority markets in their international expansion strategy.
A technology ecosystem worth tens of billions of dollars.
According to statistics from GBSA and the Gyeonggi Provincial Government – where Pangyo Techno Valley is located – Pangyo currently houses more than 1,800 technology companies in fields such as IT, biotech, content-tech, nano-tech, etc.
The tech park's consolidated revenue reached approximately 77.4 trillion won (equivalent to $58 billion USD) in just one reporting period.
Pangyo has over 62,575 employees, of which 34.3% are R&D professionals – equivalent to more than 21,000 highly skilled technical personnel.
66.8% of businesses operate in the IT sector, 14.4% in biotech, and nearly 10% in the digital content industry (content-tech).
The infrastructure is continuously being expanded through projects 1, 2, and 3 of Pangyo Techno Valley to meet the growing needs of research and entrepreneurship.
“Pangyo is truly the heart of innovation in Korea, a hub for leading companies in AI, information technology, biotechnology, and digital content,” said Sang Sung Lee. “Simply stating that a company is located in Pangyo significantly increases its brand value when working with international partners.”
Why Pangyo became the "cradle" of Korean technology.
Mr. Lee stated that there are three core advantages that make Pangyo a top destination for technology companies and startups.
These advantages include a large-scale technology cluster: “In Pangyo, companies in advanced fields are concentrated in large numbers, creating opportunities for collaboration, idea exchange, and joint project implementation.”
Young, high-quality workforce: Pangyo attracts a large number of software engineers, AI experts, biological researchers, and technology personnel from major universities and research institutes. "For businesses, recruiting personnel at Pangyo is a huge advantage, because the highly skilled workforce is concentrated here," he added.
GBSA's comprehensive business support system includes: startup support programs covering incubation from the idea stage, market launch, and global expansion; technology mentoring, investment networking, fundraising, marketing support, product development, and testing; and international market introductions through its global network of offices.
In particular, GBSA currently has two offices in Vietnam located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, acting as a direct bridge to help Korean startups enter the Vietnamese market and Vietnamese businesses access the Korean market.
Vietnam - a priority market in the 2025-2030 strategy.
When asked about plans to cooperate with Vietnam's innovation ecosystem, Mr. Lee emphasized: "We definitely want to expand our cooperation with Vietnam. If Vietnamese businesses want to enter the Korean market, GBSA is always ready to support them. Conversely, when Pangyo's startups want to go international, Vietnam is always one of the most attractive destinations."

He argued that Vietnam is currently experiencing a convergence of three strategic factors: a young, tech-savvy workforce, a rapid pace of digitalization, and high demand for AI, fintech, healthtech, content technology, and automation.
"We see many opportunities for businesses from both sides to cooperate. Vietnam and South Korea already have a deep relationship in many fields," Mr. Lee affirmed.
GBSA stated that during the 2025-2030 period, the organization will strengthen connections between Korean startups and localities and ministries in Vietnam; expand cooperation with innovation centers such as NIC, SHTP, DNES, and TECHFEST; support Vietnamese businesses in testing technology at Pangyo; and implement talent exchange programs and AI engineer exchanges to expand the market for Korean products in Vietnam and vice versa.
"We are very much looking forward to many new collaborative projects between Pangyo and Vietnam in the near future," Mr. Lee said.
Pangyo aims to become Asia's leading AI and Deep Tech hub.
According to Mr. Lee, starting in 2024, GBSA is strongly prioritizing the following areas: generative AI, robotics and automation, biotechnology and healthcare, digital content and entertainment technology (content-tech), green tech and climate tech.
"We want Pangyo to become Asia's AI valley, where next-generation technology companies can expand globally," he said.
With thousands of technology companies, tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue, and a robust startup support ecosystem, Pangyo Techno Valley is becoming a symbol of innovation in South Korea.
Vietnam, with its rapidly growing technology market among the fastest in Southeast Asia, is considered a strategic partner, opening up numerous opportunities for cooperation in AI, fintech, biotechnology, automation, and the digital economy .
The deepening connection between Pangyo and Vietnam in the coming years is expected to generate groundbreaking technology projects, making a practical contribution to the overall development of the innovation ecosystems of both countries.
