Military Region 2 handed over the cleared land, including areas where bombs and unexploded ordnance had been cleared, to the local authorities.

On the morning of December 11th, in A Mu Sung commune, Lao Cai province, the 2nd Military Region held a handover and acceptance ceremony for the completed site for bomb and unexploded ordnance clearance under Component Project No. 2, "Bomb and unexploded ordnance clearance along the Vietnam-China border in Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces." Colonel Nguyen The Hai, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Military Region and Deputy Head of the Project Management Board, chaired the handover meeting.

The area requiring demining in Lao Cai province in 2025 is 600 hectares. Brigade 543 (Military Region 2) and Brigade 249 (Engineering Corps) have been assigned as the construction units. The areas to be cleared have a high level of contamination from bombs and unexploded ordnance; many areas are unsuitable for agricultural and forestry production. The terrain of the construction areas is mostly high mountains with steep slopes, containing various types of unexploded ordnance, scattered in an irregular manner, posing considerable difficulties for the forces carrying out the task.

After more than 9 months of intensive, urgent, and responsible work, the forces have completed the entire assigned area for demining. Authorities conducted on-site inspections in Trinh Tuong, Y Ty, and A Mu Sung communes (Lao Cai province), ensuring thoroughness and finding no remaining bombs, mines, or explosive devices.

At the conference, the agencies and units reported on the construction results, supervision results, technical acceptance results, site handover, and approved and signed the handover minutes.

The project management board and local authorities signed the handover minutes.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen The Hai, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, praised the spirit and responsibility of the officers and soldiers of the units over the past period; and thanked the Party committees and local authorities for their attention, close coordination, and creation of favorable conditions for the forces to carry out the mine clearance work, ensuring progress and quality. He requested that, after the handover conference, the Engineering Department guide the units to complete the necessary procedures and documents according to regulations; the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command update the map to monitor bomb and explosive contamination in the area to ensure thoroughness; and the construction units review and inspect all equipment, vehicles, and materials, develop a plan, and organize the safe return to their units…
