The French pigeon breeding model of Mr. Ngo Van Tien (on the right) is highly economically effective.
The entrance to Mr. Tien's family's bird farm is divided into three sections with a total area of 200 square meters, neatly situated within a spacious and attractively decorated garden. He dedicated considerable time and effort to building each enclosure meticulously, ensuring convenience for caring for his flock. While introducing his model, Mr. Tien openly shared: “Born and raised on the purely agricultural land inherited from my ancestors, like many of my peers, I worked in agriculture alongside farming, and also took on some manual labor jobs in the South and North. However, after many years of struggling to make a living, I have always harbored a deep desire to develop my own business and become my own boss right here in my hometown.”
With a spirit of overcoming difficulties and striving for success, Tiến took advantage of his free time to research effective models in newspapers and on television that suited his family's economic conditions. He realized that raising French pigeons was the right path. The initial investment was low, the pigeons had a stable market, were less susceptible to disease, and grew quickly, but at that time, not many people were focusing on developing this model. Therefore, in 2011, he decided to dedicate himself to raising French pigeons right in his hometown.
Starting his business at the age of 41 with a completely new and unfamiliar model, Mr. Tien inevitably faced challenges and difficulties. Initially, with limited capital and no experience, to avoid failure, he cautiously built a small coop and then asked an acquaintance to buy 10 pairs of healthy, smooth-feathered, agile pigeons without deformities from a familiar source for experimental breeding. Through trial and error, Mr. Tien realized that French pigeons had the advantages of being easy to raise, requiring simple feed, growing quickly, being less susceptible to disease, and not requiring much care, while having a stable market. Therefore, Mr. Tien decided to invest in building a more spacious coop and buying more breeding pigeons to expand his flock.
After 14 years in the business, starting with just 10 pairs of pigeons, Mr. Tien now regularly maintains thousands of pigeons, including 700-800 breeding pairs and 400 pairs for commercial purposes; after deducting expenses, he earns a profit of over 200 million VND per year.
According to Mr. Tien, the living environment is crucial for the rapid growth and low incidence of disease among the birds. Therefore, he built the bird cages facing south, providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer. In addition, he regularly disinfects and sterilizes the cages to ensure they are always clean and well-ventilated. During the care process, he always prioritizes nutrition by feeding the birds at fixed times and supplementing with vitamins, tonics, and digestive enzymes to boost their immunity and keep them healthy.
With 14 years of experience raising pigeons, Mr. Tien is able to independently raise and care for them. With a hardworking and diligent spirit, Mr. Tien constantly learns from experience, seeks out new knowledge, and actively participates in training courses on pigeon breeding techniques to make his model even more successful. Not only has he enriched his own family, but Mr. Tien is also enthusiastic about advising and sharing his knowledge and techniques on pigeon care and disease prevention with other pigeon breeders.
Mr. Ngo Van Bac, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Yen commune, said: "In our commune, there are many economic models run by association members that bring high economic efficiency, among which the model of Mr. Ngo Van Tien's family stands out. Besides developing his family's economy, Mr. Tien also actively participates in the movements and activities of the Quang Yen commune Farmers' Association and helps members to promote self-reliance and self-improvement, always striving to improve their lives and making many positive contributions to the development of their homeland."
