Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone (An Giang province) is firmly establishing itself as a luxury international tourist destination after becoming the venue for weddings of elites and an Indian billionaire couple in 2025.
The allure of the island continues to be maintained and enhanced, with over 1,400 Indian tourists expected to visit for a holiday between December 10th and January 10th.
Data from online travel platforms indicates that Vietnam is becoming a top destination for international families during the year-end holiday season. Specifically, from December to January, searches for Phu Quoc by Indian tourists surged by 186% compared to the same period last year.

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , a leader at the An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism commented that Phu Quoc's increased attraction of Indian tourists in recent years may be due to the effect of the wedding of a famous billionaire couple from India, which was held at one of Phu Quoc's most luxurious resorts in 2019.
According to this source, several key factors have contributed to Phu Quoc becoming an attractive destination, especially for major events and high-end tourists.
First and foremost is the luxurious and large-scale resort ecosystem, boasting high-quality accommodation facilities, from resorts to international hotels, capable of successfully hosting private, complex, and demanding events such as billionaire weddings.
The second factor, according to this leader, is the ability to cater to diverse cultural experiences. Travel agencies have skillfully designed specialized products in the style of Indian culture, aiming to create connections and celebrate unique cultures, providing novel experiences for tourists.
Furthermore, the establishment of direct air connections has also made Phu Quoc more attractive to Indian tourists. While previously, the need to transit through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City significantly reduced Phu Quoc's competitiveness, now, a series of 5-hour direct flights from New Delhi has helped the island become a leading island destination in the region for high-end, busy travelers.
According to this leader, Phu Quoc will continue to be honored in international awards in 2025, such as the World's Leading Natural Island Destination 2025; having the World's Leading Iconic Tourist Destination; having world-class resorts and wedding venues;... attracting the attention of international tourists.
On the other hand, Phu Quoc has also been chosen as the host destination for APEC 2027, with a series of new infrastructure projects completing the urban landscape and attracting international attention.
According to Mr. Ngo Minh Quan, Deputy Director of Vietravel's Overseas Market Division, India is currently one of the fastest-growing tourism markets in the world, with over 27 million outbound visitors in 2019 and projected to double within 10 years.

According to a report by the An Giang Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc is estimated to welcome nearly 1.9 million international tourists by 2025, with Indian tourists contributing approximately 150,000. Total tourism revenue for the entire province is expected to reach nearly 44,000 billion VND.
According to regulations, Phu Quoc is subject to a special visa policy, providing maximum convenience for foreign visitors, including Indian citizens. The 30-day visa exemption allows visitors to enter Phu Quoc directly from abroad (without going through mainland Vietnam), stay on the island, and leave Vietnam from Phu Quoc. This policy has significantly simplified administrative procedures, making Phu Quoc an easier choice, although visitors still need a visa if they wish to visit mainland Vietnam.
Thus, the harmonious combination of luxurious resort infrastructure, groundbreaking direct flights, and preferential visa exemption policies has transformed Phu Quoc from a potential island into a "special zone" for tourism, a preferred choice for Indian elites for their high-class holidays and events.
