REFEREE ACCUSED OF BIAS
A heated controversy erupted in the mixed doubles taekwondo event featuring two Vietnamese athletes, Nguyen Thi Kim Ha and Nguyen Trong Phuc. In the final, the Vietnamese pair were judged to have performed better, while the Singaporean team, despite making numerous errors, received higher scores and won the gold medal. Furthermore, the Philippines team, who had lost to Singapore in the semi-finals, accused the referees of bias towards their opponents.

Coach Nguyen Minh Tu expressed his frustration: "The referee's scoring in the final was unfair, ignoring three very clear technical fouls committed by the two Singaporean athletes." Meanwhile, the President of the Philippine Taekwondo Federation, Mr. Tolentino, stated: "The win-loss result is not important, but the referee must be fair. We were unfairly defeated in the semi-final against Singapore because the referee's scoring was inaccurate."
Both the Vietnamese and Philippine taekwondo teams filed complaints with the chief referee and the organizing committee, but the results remained unchanged. Following the controversial incident in the mixed doubles poomsae event, Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, head of the taekwondo department at the Vietnam Sports Department, expressed hope that the referees would score fairly and impartially for all teams.
VALUABLE CERTIFICATE OF GRADUATION
It wasn't until the sixth and final event of the day that the Vietnamese taekwondo team erupted in joy, winning the gold medal in the creative team poomsae event thanks to the efforts of Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Tran Dang Khoa, Tran Ho Duy, Le Tran Kim Uyen, Nguyen Phan Khanh Han, and Nguyen Thi Y Binh.
The Vietnamese martial artists burst into tears when the referee announced that the host country Thailand's score in the final round was lower than that of the Vietnamese team, which had competed in the first round. "My teammates and I faced considerable pressure because in the previous five events, the Vietnamese taekwondo team hadn't won any gold medals. That pressure only fueled my determination and desire to win. Therefore, I am very happy and grateful for the desired result," shared martial artist Nguyen Xuan Thanh. Meanwhile, Nguyen Phan Khanh Han admitted that she and her teammates were quite nervous and anxious before the competition. "We encouraged each other to perform our routines to the best of our abilities and avoid making mistakes," Khanh Han said.
