SEA Games 33, December 11th: Many swimming events reach the finals, awaiting a gold medal from Thanh Bao.

VHO - On the morning of December 11th at the Huamark Sports Complex (Bangkok, Thailand), the Vietnamese swimming team competed in the qualifying rounds of various events. As a result, many Vietnamese swimmers performed well and qualified for the finals.

Vietnamese swimmers competing in the qualifying rounds this morning include Pham Thanh Bao (100m breaststroke men), Truong Vinh Trinh (50m backstroke men), Luong Jeremie Loic Nimo (50m freestyle men), Nguyen Kha Nhi (200m freestyle women), Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han (200m individual medley women) and the 4x 200m freestyle relay men.

In the most anticipated event, the men's 100m breaststroke, swimmer Pham Thanh Bao, nicknamed "the frog prince," finished third in the qualifying round with a time of 1 minute 3 seconds 16, behind two athletes from Singapore.

Another promising Vietnamese swimmer, Vo Thi My Tien, also qualified for the final in the women's 200m individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 23 seconds 64. On the first day of competition, December 10th, My Tien also won a silver medal in the women's 200m butterfly.

Meanwhile, Jeremie Luong qualified for the men's 50m freestyle final with a time of 23.01 seconds, finishing 4th. 17-year-old swimmer Nguyen Kha Nhi also secured a place in the women's 200m freestyle final after finishing 8th in the qualifying heat.

The two athletes who did not qualify for the finals this morning were Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han (women's 200m individual medley) and Trinh Truong Vinh (men's 50m backstroke).

In the final round taking place at 6:00 PM this evening, the hope of winning the gold medal rests on the shoulders of Nguyen Thanh Bao in the men's 100m breaststroke event.

Thanh Bảo has won a total of 4 gold medals in breaststroke events (100m and 200m) in the last two SEA Games.

At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, the swimmer born in 2001 excellently won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke, and simultaneously broke the SEA Games record with a time of 1 minute 0 seconds 97.

In addition, Thanh Bao also broke the SEA Games 200m breaststroke men's record with a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds 45.

With his composure and consistent performance, Thanh Bao is expected to win his third consecutive SEA Games gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke.
