For many years, Ninh Binh has been a "magnet" attracting domestic and international directors and filmmakers.

Ninh Binh is blessed by nature with the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex - World Cultural and Natural Heritage, along with many historical relics and unique landscapes. The appeal of the limestone mountains, winding rivers and mysterious caves has been exploited by many domestic and international film crews.

In particular, the Hollywood blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island” has spread the image of Ninh Binh (Trang An, Tam Coc - Bich Dong, Van Long areas) strongly around the world. Previously, films such as “The Quiet American”, “The Heroic Destiny”, “Tam Cam: The Untold Story” and recently famous TV series such as “Come Home, My Child”, “The Taste of Love” also chose Ninh Binh as the setting in their films.

The appearance on the big screen is not only an effective tool for promoting tourism but also opens up a new type of tourism: Film Tourism. Tourists come to admire with their own eyes the scenes that created blockbuster movies, thereby contributing to promoting tourism revenue and developing local services.

Realizing the role of cinema in positioning the tourism brand, Ninh Binh has taken systematic steps, demonstrating a longer-term, more strategic vision that goes beyond simply exploiting existing natural settings.

Specifically, in 2024, the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province signed a cooperation program with the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) with a term extending to 2035. This program aims to attract and promote filmmaking, create favorable conditions, support legal and resource issues for domestic and international film crews to come to Ninh Binh.

Along with that, building a film industry will turn Ninh Binh into not only a filming location but also a complete film ecosystem, including building film studios, training human resources and developing film production support services. Striving to make Ninh Binh a center for building and developing Vietnam's film industry to be on par with the international level.

Cinema tourism will be a bridge to exploit the cultural depth of the ancient capital Hoa Lu.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doanh Sinh Trade and Tourism Services Joint Stock Company, Mr. Pham Cong Chat shared: We are the Diamond Sponsor for the film project "Ho linh trang si" which will be shot in early November at Thung Nham Eco-tourism Area, Trang An, King Dinh Temple... and other famous tourist attractions and relics in Ninh Binh province.

It is expected that after completion, the film will attend an international film festival. This is a great opportunity to promote the image, culture and tourism of Ninh Binh through cinema to international friends and tourists, Mr. Pham Cong Chat emphasized.

Director of Ninh Binh Province Department of Tourism, Mr. Bui Van Manh said: The goal by 2035 is that Ninh Binh will become a centrally-governed city with the characteristics of a millennium heritage city, a creative city, a major center of tourism, cultural industry and heritage economy. Film tourism will be a bridge to exploit the cultural depth of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, creating tourism products with high brand value, uniqueness and sustainability.

However, the path to building a film industry and film tourism requires a lot of effort, in which the biggest challenge is to preserve and promote heritage values in parallel with economic development, ensuring that filmmaking activities do not negatively affect Trang An Heritage in particular and the natural landscape in Ninh Binh in general.

With a long-term strategic vision, Ninh Binh is creating a breakthrough direction, not only raising the level of local tourism but also contributing to building the Vietnamese cultural and film industry to reach the world. Ninh Binh in the future will not only be the thousand-year-old ancient capital but also a promising "film studio" for lifetime cinematic works.
