Proud of our homeland's seas and islands.

Raising awareness about Vietnam's seas and islands is one of the important contents that schools in Thuan Chau district pay attention to and implement in diverse forms. Through this, teachers and students enhance their understanding of protecting maritime sovereignty and feel more proud of their homeland's seas and islands.

We visited Nam Lau Secondary School on the day the teachers and students were having an extracurricular activity. In the schoolyard, many large billboards were erected to promote awareness about Vietnam's seas and islands.

Teachers and students of Nam Lau Secondary School learn about Vietnam's seas and islands at the "Sea and Island Propaganda Corner" in the schoolyard.

After attentively listening to her teachers introduce the seas and islands of her homeland, Quang Nhu Kieu, a student in class 8B at Nam Lau Secondary School, shared: "This field trip has helped me understand more deeply the importance of Vietnam's seas and islands. Admiring the sacrifices of our ancestors to protect our sovereignty , I will strive to study hard and contribute to preserving our maritime sovereignty and building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland in the future."

It is known that at Nam Lau Secondary School, most students have never been to the sea, making it difficult for them to visualize the sea and islands. The school also lacks adequate facilities and teaching equipment such as videos , images, and visual materials about the sea and islands. To overcome these difficulties and improve the effectiveness of awareness campaigns, the school integrates content on maritime sovereignty into history and geography lessons; organizes extracurricular activities and flag-raising ceremonies with the theme "Homeland's Sea and Islands"; and establishes "sea and island awareness corners" in classrooms and schoolyards, etc.

Students at Nam Lau Secondary School read books about the sea and islands in the school library.

According to Mr. Pham Van An, Deputy Principal of Nam Lau Secondary School: In the 2024-2025 school year, the school organized three thematic sessions on the sea and islands, one competition titled "I Love Vietnam's Sea and Islands"; organized a letter-writing competition to soldiers on the islands, attracting over 250 participants; and 100% of classes have a corner dedicated to promoting awareness of the sea and islands. Entering the 2025-2026 school year, the school will implement two major thematic sessions on the sea and islands on December 22, 2025 and February 3, 2026; and one quiz competition on understanding the sea and islands with over 300 student participants. As a result, 85% of students answered the basic questions about maritime sovereignty correctly.

Leaders of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Son La Provincial Party Committee and officers of the 126th Special Forces Brigade, Vietnam Navy, discussed plans for disseminating information about the sea and islands at Thuan Chau High School.

At Thuan Chau High School, the dissemination of information about the sea and islands is carried out through various forms, such as: visual propaganda, using maps, banners, posters, showing images, films, videos, and documentaries in experiential activities, and the school's monthly radio program, which focuses on articles and songs about soldiers and the sea and islands with profound meaning, praising love for the homeland, depicting the noble sacrifices of naval soldiers, and affirming the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands.

Mr. Giang Thai Hung, Principal of Thuan Chau High School, said: Recently, the school invited naval officers and soldiers to meet and exchange views on the situation of the sea and islands, such as: "Promoting awareness of the sea and islands and attracting resources to build the Navy in 2026". The exchange attracted nearly 70 officials, teachers, and staff, and more than 1,300 students. Through this, students gained a better understanding of the position, role, importance, and potential of the sea and islands; the Party and State's guidelines and policies on the sea and island strategy in the new situation, aiming to attract resources to build the Navy.

Listening directly to the soldiers of the 126th Special Forces Brigade, Vietnam Navy, giving a presentation on the sea and islands, Luong Huyen Bao Tram, a student in class 12A3 at Thuan Chau High School, was deeply moved: "Hearing them talk about the heroic struggle of our ancestors to protect the sovereignty of our sea and islands, and the current duties of the Navy soldiers in our sea and islands, I feel very admiring and proud! This also helps me and my classmates better understand our responsibility as students and citizens to understand the law and take concrete actions to contribute to protecting the sea, islands, and the country of Vietnam."

Officers from the 126th Special Forces Brigade, Vietnam Navy, conducted a propaganda session on Vietnam's seas and islands at Thuan Chau High School.

Propaganda activities regarding the sea and islands, and attracting human resources to build the Navy, have been jointly carried out by the 126th Special Forces Brigade of the Navy and the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Provincial Party Committee at units and schools in the province from 2018 to the present. Specifically in March 2026, propaganda activities were organized in Thuan Chau commune and Thuan Chau High School; and in Quynh Nhai commune and Quynh Nhai High School.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Nhu Tuyen, Deputy Political Commissar of the 126th Special Forces Brigade, Vietnam Navy, stated: "We regularly update and provide timely information on the situation regarding the implementation of tasks to protect maritime sovereignty and islands; the process of building, fighting, and winning of the Vietnam People's Navy; especially the new requirements in building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern Navy; and the requirements for protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands in the new era. Through this, we help local Party committees, authorities, as well as teachers and high school students in Son La province better understand the position and great significance of the Fatherland's seas and islands, and our responsibility in protecting maritime sovereignty and islands. In addition, we also guide students in choosing vocational schools, contributing to the development of the Navy."

Students at Thuan Chau High School listen to a presentation about Vietnam's seas and islands.

Diversifying the forms of propaganda about the sea and islands has helped students grasp basic knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the value, meaning, and importance of the sea and islands to the country's development. At the same time, it helps them cultivate a love for the sea and islands, awaken patriotic traditions, national pride, and a sense of responsibility in each student, ready to dedicate their youth and talents to protecting and developing the sea and islands, and building a stronger and more prosperous country.
