Established in April 1930
Along with the Long Tho Lime Factory and the Hue Waterworks, the Hue Power Plant, also known colloquially as the Hue Electric Power Plant, was established in 1920. The Hue Electric Power Plant is known for its early and strong development of the workers' movement. From 1926 to 1927, workers at the Hue Electric Power Plant actively participated in and supported the student strikes at schools in Hue city, such as Hue National High School and the Technical High School.
It was also during this period that many workers at the Hue Power Plant joined the Revolutionary Youth League. A notable example was worker Nguyen Duc Tinh, who was admitted to the organization as early as 1927. In July 1928, the Thua Thien Provincial Committee of the Revolutionary Youth League was established, and Nguyen Duc Tinh was appointed Secretary. This laid the groundwork for the Hue Power Plant Party Branch to officially open in April 1930, just two months after the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam , with over 10 members and Comrade Nguyen Duc Tinh as its Secretary.
Glorious revolutionary tradition
Immediately after its establishment, the Hue Power Plant Party Branch led the workers of the Hue Power Plant, directly and together with the workers in Hue, allied with other social groups to participate in the revolutionary movements of 1930-1931, 1936-1939, and 1940-1945. The pinnacle was during the August Revolution of 1945, when the workers of the Hue Power Plant, along with other segments of the population in the province, rose up to seize power. The Hue Power Plant Party Branch led the workers in ensuring a constant power supply for the city's agencies and people during this historic period.
Entering the resistance war against the French, the Party base of the Hue Power Plant remained steadfast in the face of all challenges. Responding to President Ho Chi Minh's nationwide call for resistance, on December 19, 1946, the plant's self-defense team, along with the then-commanded suicide squad led by Lieutenant General Hoang Ngoc Dieu, fought to prevent the enemy from recapturing the plant. The glorious history of the Hue Power Plant workers from 1947 to 1954 is worthy of their position and role in the history of the Party Committee and the people of Thua Thien Hue province, who bravely and resolutely resisted French colonial aggression.
During the resistance war against the US, the Hue City Party Committee and the City Party Committee's Labor Mobilization Department always sought to approach and build revolutionary bases at the power plant. The activities of the core group at the Hue Power Plant after the 1960s laid the groundwork for the Spring 1968 General Offensive and Uprising. Workers protected and maintained the power generators for 26 days and nights before handing them over to the liberation army for management, ensuring a continuous power supply for Hue city. Many workers at the Hue Power Plant later became cadres and Party members who made significant contributions to the glorious revolutionary struggle of the Party.
Contributing to building a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized Hue.
On March 26, 1975, the workers of the Hue Power Plant resolutely held onto the plant to the end and were the ones who directly welcomed the liberation army into the city before handing over the plant to representatives of the Thua Thien Hue Military Administration Committee for management. From 1976 to the present, over half a century, the Hue Power Plant has undergone fundamental changes in its organizational and management model, from the Binh Tri Thien Electricity Management and Distribution Department under the Central Power Company (from 1976), Thua Thien Hue Power Company under Power Company 3 (from 1989) to Hue Power Company (PC Hue) under the Central Power Corporation.
The Party's grassroots organization, which started as a single branch with 5 members in April 1975, has grown significantly into a Party Committee with 20 subordinate branches and 276 members (as of June 2025). Building on the traditions of the former Power Plant Branch, the Party Committee focuses on enhancing political acumen; innovating leadership methods; effectively implementing the Central Committee's strategic resolutions; and maintaining its leadership role in ensuring the company successfully fulfills its assigned political tasks.
Under the close leadership of the Party Committee, Hue Power Company ensures the safe, continuous, and stable supply of electricity to serve socio-economic development and the lives of the people in the area, contributing to building a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized Hue city. The peak load capacity in 2024 will reach 374.8 MW. By the end of 2025, commercial electricity output will reach 2,307 million kWh. Electricity loss will be reduced from 4.82% in 2021 to 4.11% in 2024 and maintained below 4.18% in 2025. The percentage of households with electricity will reach 100%; of which, rural areas will reach 99.997%.
