From village schoolgirl to international delegate

A female student from Ha Tinh province, hailing from a "village school," receives a Fulbright University scholarship, achieves success on international forums, and inspires others with her story of overcoming adversity and spreading cultural values.

Born into a working-class family in Cam Xuyen, Ha Tinh province, 22-year-old Tran Bach Khanh Chi quickly realized that education is the key to changing her life. With the support of her parents and a passion for learning foreign languages, she became a representative of Vietnam at the Southeast Asia-Japan Youth Ship 2024, with a big dream of reaching out to the world. Khanh Chi not only honed her skills but also possessed a strong aspiration. Her story is an inspiration to many young people.

The female student strives relentlessly to achieve her dreams.

Recognizing this hardship, Chi relentlessly strived in her studies and became one of the few students from a "village school" to be admitted to the specialized English class 1 at Ha Tinh High School for Gifted Students. This opened the first door to greater opportunities.

With her outstanding academic achievements, Chi won a scholarship at Fulbright University Vietnam. This was a crucial turning point, giving her the opportunity to broaden her horizons . "Studying in a dynamic environment has opened up many opportunities for me. In January 2024, I will represent Vietnam at the Hong Kong Techathon 2024," Chi shared.

"Having witnessed Hong Kong's modern economic development, I am even more determined to train myself to become an outstanding individual so that I can contribute to building a stronger and more civilized Vietnam," Chi added.

Shortly after, Chi registered and was selected as the sole representative of Vietnam to participate in the Youth Dialogue Forum in Malaysia. "Wearing the traditional Ao Dai dress and representing Vietnam to showcase the beauty of our national culture is a great source of national pride for me. I hope to spread this to my international friends," Chi excitedly recounted.

This success has empowered Chi in her journey to conquer even greater challenges. This female student surpassed 500 candidates nationwide to become an official delegate to the Southeast Asia-Japan Youth Ship Program 2024. This is one of the most important annual foreign relations activities for youth in the region and Japan.

Chi said she had known about the program for a long time, noting that the delegates were usually exceptionally outstanding individuals in all fields. Initially, she only applied to try her luck, thinking that being selected for the program was impossible. However, through relentless effort to achieve her dream, she has now reached her goal.

Throughout her journey participating in international forums, Chi has continuously nurtured bigger plans. Chi shared: "I hope to create youth cultural exchange projects in the future to bring Vietnamese students to the world and welcome international students to Vietnam to experience the beauty of our culture and people."

She excelled in her role as the female lead in the international short film project.

Besides participating in activities and forums, the female student is also interested in community issues, especially mental health. Chi and her colleagues developed the 2D game Lost & Found : "I made this game with the desire to 'heal' the inner child in each person, by helping them express self-love through writing down their feelings after overcoming challenges in the game."

And ultimately, they overcome their own limiting beliefs. The music in the game (composed by team members) also serves as a relaxing and… healing element for the player's in-game experience."

Chi and her team's game project has received considerable attention. In particular, in 2023, the project was among the Top 5 outstanding startups at the Startup Talent Incubation Program organized by the Fulbright Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center and Reactor School Singapore.

In addition, Chi has impressed many with her talents such as playing the zither, singing in Japanese, modern dance, and acting. In 2023, Chi brilliantly completed the lead female role in Saturn, a short film project that won the Best Actress award at the Dubai International Film Festival.

Director Aaron Toronto commented: "I rarely meet students with such passionate enthusiasm for acting as Khanh Chi. I believe that in the future, Khanh Chi will achieve even greater success."
