Foundations from practice
On December 26, 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 3588/QD-BGDĐT on a set of textbooks for general education to be used uniformly nationwide. According to this decision, the textbook "Connecting Knowledge with Life" was selected for application starting from the 2026-2027 school year. This decision was issued in the process of implementing Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, and Resolution No. 281/NQ-CP dated September 15, 2025, of the Government promulgating the Action Program to implement Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the textbook series fully meets the selection criteria for general education textbooks to be used uniformly nationwide. The series includes all subjects and educational activities at all three levels; its scientific and pedagogical quality has been affirmed through its use; and it is available in all 34 provinces and cities with the largest number of students among currently used textbook series.
A representative from the Vietnam Education Publishing House stated, "The book 'Connecting Knowledge with Life' was compiled by a team of 431 authors, including 151 professors and associate professors and 137 PhDs, along with the participation of scientists , education experts, teacher trainers, and general education teachers."
Based on teaching experience, many teachers have assessed the textbook series as having good connections between different grade levels and emphasizing the connection of knowledge with real life. Ms. Le Thi Diem Nghien, a Geography teacher at Chuong Duong Secondary School (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), commented: "The Geography sub-subject in the History and Geography textbook has a logical knowledge structure; many contents are linked to life and the practical development of the country, helping students access natural knowledge more naturally. The book includes many examples related to social life, such as the role of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the economy, the key economic region of the Mekong Delta; and practical exercises in drawing and analyzing climate charts using data from meteorological stations such as Truong Sa, Hue, and Hanoi. These data help students develop skills in processing information, reading charts, and analyzing geographical phenomena from specific data."
In the Literature subject, Ms. Hoang Tue Minh, a teacher in the Literature-History Department at Giang Vo Secondary School (Ba Dinh, Hanoi), assessed that the textbook's materials are diverse and closely aligned with the psychology of students of that age group. The writing guidance is designed step-by-step, from finding ideas and creating outlines to completing the essay. This organization helps students gradually develop the ability to learn and write independently, instead of just waiting for guidance and correction from the teacher.
According to Ms. Minh, using a single set of textbooks will facilitate the exchange of experiences, sharing of methods, and more effective in refining lessons in depth. Groups and teams will find it easier to develop lesson plans, design tests, and select supplementary learning materials. Students transferring schools or changing learning locations will also avoid having to familiarize themselves with a new set of textbooks, minimizing disruptions in their knowledge acquisition.
Over the years of implementation in various localities, the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" textbook series has created stability in the teaching and learning process. Teachers have the opportunity to adjust their lessons based on classroom realities; students in many grade levels have also become familiar with the organization of content, question systems, exercises, and learning activities. This is one of the important foundations when the whole country switches to using a single set of textbooks.
From another perspective, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Ha, a teacher at Hien Nam Primary School in Pho Hien Ward (Hung Yen province), believes that the textbooks under the 2018 General Education Program contain equivalent amounts of knowledge, with the main difference lying in the way the curriculum is structured. According to her, using a single set of textbooks will facilitate the exchange of experiences, sharing of methods, and in-depth improvement of lesson plans.
Conditions for ensuring unified implementation
When nationwide teaching is based on a single set of textbooks, ensuring the necessary conditions for implementation becomes crucial. Textbooks must be supplied on schedule; teachers need training; and schools must have sufficient teacher's books, training materials, lesson plans, and accompanying learning resources. Each stage directly impacts the quality of teaching and learning in each locality.
The Vietnam Education Publishing House currently has a system of authors, editors, experts, publishing technicians, warehousing and distribution networks covering the entire country. This is one of the foundations that ensures the textbooks reach schools on time and meet the needs of teachers and students.
According to the information released regarding the use of textbooks for the 2026-2027 school year, the Vietnam Education Publishing House will continue to coordinate with the education sector to ensure the timely and complete supply of textbooks and educational materials before the start of the new school year. In addition, the price of textbooks from grades 1 to 12 has been announced to be reduced by an average of 13.3% compared to the previous school year.
Adjusting textbook prices is of practical significance for parents, especially in the context of the nationwide transition to a single set of textbooks. Along with the early preparation of textbooks and a synchronized distribution system, the preparation for the new school year will reduce pressure on families, schools, and educational institutions.
From a set of textbooks selected and used in many localities, "Connecting Knowledge with Life" has now become a nationwide textbook. The process of implementation in actual teaching has provided important foundations for the textbook's unified use, and also demonstrates the role of practice in refining educational policy.
