On the evening of May 2nd, Rockstar Games unexpectedly announced on its website that the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA VI) has been postponed to May 26th, 2026. Previously, the game was scheduled for release in the fall of 2025.

"We sincerely apologize for this being later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new GTA game has truly put our entire team on edge. We want to thank you for your support and patience while we worked to complete the game."

With every game we've released, the goal has always been to try to exceed your expectations, and GTA 6 is no exception. We hope fans understand that it takes more time to deliver the quality you expect and deserve," Rockstar Games wrote.

According to leaked information, the upcoming latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series could be the most expensive game in the series to produce, with Rockstar reportedly willing to spend up to $2.5 billion to develop GTA VI.

This is an almost unbelievable budget for an entertainment product. If this figure becomes true, it would make GTA VI the most expensive game ever produced. However, this information has not been verified by any individual or organization.

Currently, the title at the top of the list of the most expensive games ever developed is Destiny. The game's development cost alone was $140 million , while marketing expenses reached $360 million .

Next on the list is GTA's "sibling," Red Dead Redemption 2, with $370 million . Set in the American West in the 1890s, the Red Dead Redemption series is dubbed the GTA for cowboys.
