A young man set fire to a statue of Cristiano Ronaldo in front of the CR7 museum in Madeira, filmed himself dancing around the flames, and posted the video on social media.

According to Portuguese media, the man filmed himself pouring flammable liquid onto a statue of Ronaldo located in front of the CR7 museum in the center of Funchal, then setting it on fire. The flames quickly engulfed most of the bronze statue, even nearly catching his own shirt. Despite the danger, he played music from a speaker he was carrying and performed suggestive dance moves around the fire.

The video was immediately posted to a personal Instagram account with approximately 1,000 followers. The account, named zaino.tcc.filipe, described itself as "a human being, a freestyle artist and a local," and left a caption that sparked public outrage: "This is the final warning for Cristiano."

Madeira police said they have identified the suspect, but have not yet arrested him. A police source added: "The perpetrator has been identified. This is not an unfamiliar face as he has been involved in similar incidents before."

It is unclear whether the statue was damaged. The fire initially flared up intensely but quickly died down and did not spread. However, the act still caused outrage. Many harsh comments appeared below the video. Ronaldo's museum has stated that the entire incident has been handed over to the police and declined to comment further.

The burned statue was a replica placed in front of the CR7 museum, which had been moved to this location in 2016 after being vandalized by a group of fans. Previously, the statue had attracted global attention due to its striking appearance, even being ridiculed on social media. Ronaldo himself returned to Madeira to attend the statue's unveiling in 2014 and called it a very special moment.
