Maarten Paes joined Ajax after reaching a transfer agreement from FC Dallas, marking a major turning point in the career of the Indonesian national team goalkeeper.

Paes is expected to travel to the Netherlands this week for a medical examination, after which he will sign a 3.5-year contract, running until June 2029. This move demonstrates a long-term commitment from both sides.

Ajax wants him to join the team for training as soon as possible. The signing of the Indonesian national team goalkeeper is seen as a significant move by Ajax to strengthen their goalkeeping position.

Paes has been one of the best goalkeepers in Major League Soccer (MLS) for the past two years. The 27-year-old goalkeeper possesses quick reflexes, the ability to command the defense, and the potential to develop in the top-level European football environment.

This transfer also opens up an opportunity for Paes to prove his worth in the Dutch league, many years after leaving. Paes began his career at Dutch clubs. He was a member of the Netherlands U19, U20, and U21 teams before moving to MLS in 2022.

The goalkeeper, born in 1998, became an Indonesian citizen and was eligible to play for the national team in April 2024. Paes then performed excellently in the second and third qualifying rounds of the 2026 World Cup in the Asian region.
