After a nearly 8-hour flight from Hanoi , at 1 PM local time (5 PM Vietnam time), the Vietnam U23 team arrived in Doha (Qatar), officially beginning their important training camp in preparation for the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship.
After settling into their accommodations, the players quickly had a meal and rested before starting a light gym session at 6 PM local time that same day.
Earlier, team leader Doan Anh Tuan arrived in Qatar a day early to scout the area, work with and coordinate with the local organizers regarding the schedule of activities and training, creating the most favorable conditions for the entire team.
In the early days in Qatar, the coaching staff paid special attention to adjusting to the body's circadian rhythm, given that Qatar's time zone is 4 hours behind Vietnam.
On this trip, head coach Kim Sang Sik is accompanied by his assistant, Dinh Hong Vinh, who previously led the Vietnam U22/U23 team while the South Korean coach was busy coaching the national team.
The Vietnam U23 team's squad for the training camp in Qatar consists of 24 players. After the Vietnam U23 team plays a friendly match against Syria U23 on December 30th, the coaching staff will narrow the list down to 23 players in accordance with the regulations of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
Head coach Kim Sang Sik shared: "Before the SEA Games, the players played friendly matches against strong opponents such as South Korea, China, and Uzbekistan and performed well. This gives us more confidence that the Vietnam U23 team is capable of playing well at the U23 Asian Championship."
Of course, there are no easy opponents, especially the host nation Saudi Arabia - the strongest team in the group. However, my players are becoming more experienced and confident, and that will be the foundation for the whole team to work together and fight for good results," Coach Kim emphasized.
