The application of digital maps is not only a technological advancement but also a crucial driving force in building a smart and sustainable tourism industry. This contributes to enhancing the visitor experience and preserving the cultural and natural values of the locality.

Innovating the approach to tourism.

Digital maps are not simply navigation tools, but also platforms integrating multi-dimensional information, from geographical location and destination information to tourism services such as accommodation, dining, and transportation. With the development of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI), digital maps provide an interactive and intuitive experience, helping travelers easily plan their itineraries and explore destinations comprehensively.

In Da Lat, the Art Tourism Map, launched on August 29, 2024, is a prime example. Designed by Pho Ben Doi Art Space and Behalf Studio, this product is not only a navigational tool but also connects art, music, and cultural destinations, telling stories about the city's history and creativity. Mr. Nguyen Hien, founder of Pho Ben Doi, shared: “We created and always hope that the Art Tourism Map will become a detailed tool, helping tourists understand Da Lat more deeply, from its cultural and artistic values to its historical stories. Every day, we standardize the content and images of the map's functions so that tourists will better understand the place they visit.” The digitalization of the art map in the future will not only enhance the tourist experience but also contribute to promoting Da Lat as a unique cultural destination.

Many other initiatives in Lam Dong are also leveraging digital maps to innovate the tourism industry. The "Da Lat Online" application provides detailed information about attractions, night food areas, and pedestrian streets such as Lam Vien Square and Da Lat Night Market. Free Wi-Fi in central areas supports tourists in easily accessing digital maps. Notably, at many popular tourist destinations, homestays and 3-4 star hotels in the wards of Da Lat have begun integrating VR360 technology. This technology helps to visually showcase accommodation spaces and tourism experiences, while also allowing the use of real-time data to manage visitor traffic. This enhances the visitor experience while contributing to environmental protection and sustainable tourism development.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Ha, Deputy Director of Mobifone Lam Dong, a pioneer in VR360 application, shared: “VR360 technology provides a vivid and immersive experience, helping to promote Lam Dong's destinations to domestic and international tourists.” These efforts not only enhance the quality of the experience but also elevate the image of Lam Dong tourism to a wider international level.

Connecting with local cultures through digital maps.

Besides enhancing the tourism experience, digital maps also play a crucial role in connecting tourists with local culture and effectively promoting community tourism. In Quang Lap commune, Avocado Farm, an agro-tourism destination recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, has utilized digital maps on Google Maps to attract visitors. Mr. Phan Thanh Nhan, the farm manager, said: “We have registered for the VR360 technology application to provide a virtual tour experience, helping tourists clearly visualize the destination before visiting. This technology not only attracts tourists but also helps promote local agricultural products very effectively.”

Mr. Tran Van Minh, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City visiting Avocado Farm, shared: “The digital map on Google Maps made it easy for me to find my way to the farm, and the VR360 experience gave me a panoramic view of the lush green space and interesting activities here. This made me even more excited about deciding to visit.” In parallel, the farm is also affiliated with the Churu Cultural Village, where visitors can participate in unique cultural activities such as pottery making, brocade weaving, enjoying traditional rice wine, and experiencing the sounds of gongs and drums.

At Churu Cultural Village, VR360 technology vividly recreates the local cultural space. Ms. Ma Thuan, a tour guide at the village, proudly shared: “Digital maps and VR360 have brought Churu culture closer to tourists from all over the world. Before arriving, they can experience the village through technology, so when they set foot here, I just need to welcome them and guide them to immerse themselves in the unique cultural values. I see that technology not only helps increase the number of tourists, but also helps them appreciate the cultural values that we have preserved for generations.”

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Oanh, a tourist, shared: “Thanks to the digital map, I easily found my way to Churu Cultural Village and had a wonderful experience. This technology not only helps with navigation but also provides detailed information about cultural activities, making my trip more meaningful. I was very impressed with how technology helped me explore the local culture in a very intimate way.” These experiences not only help preserve and promote local cultural values but also create a stable source of income for the community, contributing to the sustainable development of tourism.

The application of digital maps, combined with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and VR360, is becoming a key to Lam Dong province's ability to fully exploit its tourism potential and meet the growing demands of domestic and international tourists. To realize this vision, in the coming time, Lam Dong province will continue to promote the effective implementation of Resolution 18-NQ/TU of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, focusing on investing heavily in technological infrastructure, developing high-quality human resources, and promoting close linkages between agencies, businesses, and local communities.

Specific solutions such as expanding the free Wi-Fi system at tourist destinations, upgrading smart tourism applications with user-friendly interfaces and integrating more advanced technologies will help Lam Dong better meet the diverse needs of tourists.
