Enhancing transparency and connectivity through digital platforms.

One notable recent effort is the collaboration between Vietnam and the International Partnership Group (IPG) to officially launch the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) portal. This is considered a crucial digital platform that connects and promotes collaboration among stakeholders towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.

The Joint Economic Partnership Agreement (JETP) was born from a significant political agreement signed in December 2022 in Brussels, Belgium, between Vietnam and IPG. Aimed at supporting Vietnam in transitioning its energy system toward reducing carbon emissions, the JETP seeks to build a transition process that is not only rapid but also equitable, thereby creating new economic opportunities on the path towards achieving net-zero emissions.

To effectively and transparently realize the commitment to energy transition, the Prime Minister decided to establish the JETP Implementation Secretariat. This agency is tasked with advising and supporting the Prime Minister – Head of the COP26 Steering Committee – in directing, managing, and resolving issues related to the implementation of JETP in Vietnam.

To provide an official, transparent, and timely information channel on the progress of JETP implementation, the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Electricity Department, IPG, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has developed and launched the official JETP Vietnam website. This is an important platform connecting the JETP Secretariat with IPG, GFANZ – a private sector-led initiative – as well as the units proposing and implementing related projects.

Towards a comprehensive information ecosystem for a green future.

Moving toward a green future requires a comprehensive information ecosystem where data and knowledge about the environment, climate, and sustainable development are collected, shared, and used effectively. A robust information ecosystem not only fosters deeper understanding within the community but also provides valuable tools for policymakers and businesses in making sound strategic decisions. Building platforms for sharing information on the environment and sustainable development is key to engaging stakeholders, fostering collaboration, and creating synergies that contribute positively to the realization of green goals.

Previously, several platforms for sharing information and knowledge about the environment and sustainable development had been built and initially yielded positive results. A prime example is the Climate Change Portal for Youth, supported by UNDP since 2021, which has met the urgent needs of Vietnamese youth, providing a reliable online space with accurate information on climate science, energy, agriculture, forestry, waste management, circular economy, and climate policy. This platform has also supported thousands of young people in building capacity, promoting climate initiatives, and facilitating their access to green jobs and sustainable lifestyles.

Developing specialized information platforms not only enhances transparency but also promotes coordination and cooperation among the government, businesses, and the community, making a significant contribution to realizing sustainable development goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam. This is a necessary step towards building a comprehensive information ecosystem, aiming for a greener, more balanced, and sustainable future for all, especially in the context of the country's transformation in the digital age.
