Spanish media revealed that many former teammates were shocked at being unable to contact Valdes for such a long time. Several sporting directors and scouts in Spain have had difficulty contacting the former Barca goalkeeper.
After more than four years of "disappearing" from the public eye (since 2021), Valdes returned to coaching in April 2025 when he accepted the offer to manage Real Ávila, a team in the Spanish Fourth Division (Segunda Federación).
However, he only managed the team for 4 matches (2 wins, 2 losses) before voluntarily leaving at the end of 2025 after failing in the promotion play-offs. After leaving Real Ávila, Valdes continued to choose a private lifestyle, rarely appearing in the media.
He spends most of his time with his family and on personal activities in Spain. Valdes was once famous for saying, "When I retire, I will disappear," and he has remained quite true to that promise to this day.
After retiring from playing in 2017, Valdes didn't completely leave football. He tried his hand at coaching, starting with the Moratalaz youth team, then returning to Barcelona to lead the U19 team in 2019. However, this journey didn't last long.
After only a few months, he left the U19 team due to conflicts with the club's management. In March 2025, Valdes accepted the offer to manage Real Avila, a Spanish third-division team. But after only four matches, in May, he unexpectedly resigned without giving any detailed explanation. Since then, Valdes has completely disappeared from public view.
