From the beginning of June until now, Van Don tourism has entered its peak season with a sharp increase in visitor numbers across all routes and destinations. It is projected that in the first six months of 2026, the total number of tourists to Van Don will reach approximately 1.5 million, an increase of 40.2% compared to the same period in 2025 and nearly 45% of the annual plan; of which, domestic tourists will reach over 1.4 million, continuing to be the main market; international tourists will reach 56,500, an increase of 8% compared to the same period last year.
Notably, the number of overnight visitors reached over 272,000, a 64.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025; tourism revenue is estimated at VND 2,719 billion, an 86% increase compared to the same period in 2025. These figures show that tourists are not only visiting in greater numbers but also tend to stay longer and experience more services in the locality.
The strong growth is clearly reflected in the accommodation sector. Many large hotels and resorts in the area, such as Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don and Angsana Quan Lan, consistently maintain high occupancy rates during the summer. According to Mr. Pham Ha, General Manager of Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don, the occupancy rate in June reached 75-85%, with advance bookings accounting for approximately 90%. It is expected that the number of guests will continue to increase from now until August. To ensure quality service, the hotel will add more amenities suitable for families, groups of friends, or large company tours. Simultaneously, they will develop more promotional packages combining entertainment, dining , and exploring local culture to meet the increasingly diverse needs of different customer segments.

Summer is traditionally the peak season for tourism in Van Don. On weekends, Ao Tien International Port is always bustling, welcoming approximately 20,000-25,000 tourists traveling to the islands of Quan Lan, Minh Chau, and Ngoc Vung. These destinations continue to be particularly popular with tourists thanks to their pristine beauty, clear blue beaches, and increasingly improved service infrastructure. In May alone, Ao Tien International Port served over 90,000 tourists traveling to these islands. To meet the growing market demand, shipping companies have proactively upgraded their vessels and service quality.
In the island communes of Quan Lan and Minh Chau, coastal walking paths, clean and beautiful beaches, and many attractive experiential activities are becoming highlights attracting tourists. Meanwhile, Ngoc Vung is increasingly chosen by many families as an ideal resort destination thanks to its peaceful atmosphere and closeness to nature. Beyond traditional beach resort products, Van Don is also seeing an increase in tourists seeking local cultural experiences. Many tourists choose to explore the lives of fishermen, participate in community tourism activities, spiritual tourism, or experience the unique cultural characteristics of coastal residents. This trend aligns with the increasingly diverse and experiential needs of tourists today.
According to Mr. Dao Van Vu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Don Special Economic Zone, the locality aims to welcome 3.4 million tourists and achieve revenue exceeding 6,700 billion VND in 2026. To realize this goal, Van Don is focusing on developing many new tourism products, creating additional impetus for the growth of the local tourism industry. Of particular note is the implementation of a pilot project to develop a model of marine and island ecotourism linked with aquaculture. This is expected to become a unique product, effectively exploiting the potential of the islands and providing new and unique experiences for tourists.

Alongside product development, the locality continues to coordinate with travel agencies and tourism promotion organizations inside and outside the province to survey and develop new tour routes, expanding the tourist market. State management of tourism is also strengthened to ensure a civilized, safe, and friendly tourism environment. Many solutions to improve service quality are implemented synchronously during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the peak summer season; at the same time, regulations on food safety, security and order, and environmental protection are strictly enforced.
Furthermore, the locality is gradually realizing its goal of building a green, smart, and sustainable tourist destination. In the field of digital transformation, Van Don has implemented QR code payment for Chinese tourists; and has completed updating tourism data to the intelligent operating system (IOC) to serve management and operation.

With its outstanding advantages in marine and island resources, increasingly完善 infrastructure system, and a determination to innovate in management and product development, Van Don is gradually asserting its position as one of the attractive marine and island tourism centers of Quang Ninh. The strong growth in the first months of 2026 not only creates momentum for local economic development but also opens up expectations for a new breakthrough period, making Van Don an increasingly attractive destination on the Vietnamese tourism map.
