The year 2024 marks a significant turning point in the new rural development journey of Van Yen commune. With the completion of 100% of the advanced new rural development criteria, the commune has affirmed the tireless efforts of the entire political system and the people in improving the quality of life and rural infrastructure.
One of the outstanding highlights in the process of building advanced new rural areas in Van Yen is the "Expanding village roads to 6m" movement. The entire commune has expanded the main village roads with a total length of nearly 13,000m, with 699 households donating more than 33,850m² of land and contributing more than 7.5 billion VND.
In addition, the project to upgrade Provincial Road 263B, the section passing through the commune (from Km12 to Km15), is also a testament to the high level of social consensus. With over 150 households donating land and assets, the total estimated value is 1.72 billion VND.
Van Yen has a total natural area of over 2,454 hectares, of which rice cultivation accounts for 740.4 hectares. Agricultural production continues to be the economic spearhead, with a total grain production of over 4,530 tons, consistently meeting and exceeding the set plan. Corn is grown on an area of 55 hectares with a yield of 257.4 tons.
In addition, crops such as sweet potatoes, peanuts, various vegetables, sugarcane, cassava, etc., are also maintained stably with an area of 245 hectares, contributing to the diversification of agricultural products.
In agricultural production in Van Yen, tea cannot be overlooked. The commune has identified it as a "key" crop, with a total area of over 132 hectares and a fresh tea leaf yield of more than 1,600 tons. Notably, the area of newly planted and replanted tea with high productivity and quality reached 200% of the plan last year, reflecting the sustainable tea cultivation orientation and the gradual improvement of product quality in the locality.
Comrade Ngo Van Thang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Yen commune, said: The commune continues to effectively implement programs and projects on tea development; focusing on transferring new scientific and technological advancements into tea production, processing, and consumption through training programs of the agricultural extension system. It encourages households to cooperate in producing safe tea according to VietGAP standards; encourages the establishment of cooperatives, striving to achieve a fresh tea leaf output of over 1,620 tons this year.

Besides agriculture, Van Yen also recorded significant development in the industrial and handicraft sectors. The total production value is estimated at 38 billion VND, equivalent to 102.7% of the plan (2024). Notable achievements include mechanical processing, non-fired brick production, dried tea processing, and household furniture manufacturing, contributing to job creation, increased income, and higher budget revenue for the commune. Trade and service activities are stable, meeting the consumption needs of the people with retail sales exceeding 25 billion VND per year.
The criteria for cultural life and social welfare achieved impressive results: 2,082 out of 2,252 households met the cultural standards (92.33%), and all 15 hamlets and 5 agencies achieved the title of cultural hamlet, exceeding the set plan. Cultural, artistic, and sports activities were vibrant, especially the Van Mountain - Vo Mountain Festival and summer cultural programs for teenagers, creating a joyful, united, and close-knit community atmosphere.
Poverty reduction efforts continued to be intensified, with the poverty rate decreasing to 2.05% (a reduction of 1.71%), exceeding the target by 114%; the near-poverty rate decreased by 1.28%, to 3.13%.
“Achieving the goal of advanced new rural development is a proud milestone, but it also poses new challenges for Van Yen in maintaining and developing the achievements already made. With a solid foundation, high solidarity spirit, and flexibility in management, Van Yen is affirming its position as a bright spot in the new rural development movement of Dai Tu district,” shared Comrade Ngo Van Thang.
To continue maintaining, perfecting, and improving the quality of the advanced new rural development criteria, the Party committee, government, and people of Van Yen commune must continue to strive and make even greater efforts. The journey of building their homeland from a purely agricultural commune into a model locality today is a vivid testament to the inner strength of the people of Van Yen - the sons and daughters who are continuing to write the glorious history of this heroic land.
