To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), many books on this topic have been introduced to readers.
Recently, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced to readers a 17-volume series with the hope of helping to remind the younger generation of a time of war and heroism, to be proud of the Vietnamese spirit, to be grateful to the generations before them, and to cherish the peace we are living in today.

Most notably among the publications launched on this occasion is "Sketches in the Trenches - A Young Soldier's War Diary in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign" by artist and war correspondent Pham Thanh Tam, published for the first time in Vietnam. The Vietnamese edition uses the design and images from the English edition published by Asia Ink in 2005. The entire diary section is a typed copy of the author's 1954 diary. When printing this work, Asia Ink affirmed: Pham Thanh Tam's sketches are rare surviving documents from the battlefield. The delicate images on the pages of the notebook allow us to appreciate the artistic talent of a young artist in sketching beauty during a battle that journalist Bernard B. Fall called "a corner of hell".
"Memories of Dien Bien" is a collection of short stories featuring excellent works about Dien Bien Phu, such as "The Black Prisoner of War" (Nguyen Dinh Thi), "Pulling the Cannon" (Chu Phac), "Breakthrough" (Vu Cao), "The Bomb Disposal Soldier" (Ho Phuong)... through which the stories portray the portraits of the soldiers who "went to Dien Bien Phu" and who, "no matter how difficult the circumstances, they were determined to go, without fear or hesitation."
To help readers, especially young readers, better understand the glorious past of the nation, Kim Dong Publishing House has released many illustrated books with elaborate artistic designs. These include "Telling the Story of Dien Bien Phu" by writer Huu Mai, with its elaborate illustrations by artist Nguyen The Phuong, and the trilogy "Young Heroes," which vividly portrays the portraits, achievements, and heroic sacrifices of three courageous soldiers in the Dien Bien Phu campaign: Phan Dinh Giot, Be Van Dan, and To Vinh Dien, through the concise narratives of authors Hoai Loc and Hieu Minh and the color illustrations by artist Le Minh Hai.
Also on this occasion, Kim Dong Publishing House has given a "new look" to the reprinted editions of outstanding publications about the Dien Bien Phu campaign. These include "General Vo Nguyen Giap in his youth" by Lieutenant General Pham Hong Cu, "The Dien Bien Phu soldier tells his story" by teacher Do Ca Son, "Stories from Hill A1" by author Nguyen Tan, "On the other side of the mountain" by writer Xuan Sach, "People upon people" by writer Tran Dan, "The crimson red flag" by writer Ho Phuong, "The clock repairman at tunnel number 1" by writer Huu Mai, the collection of memoirs "Our Dien Bien Phu" featuring works by writers Nguyen Huy Tuong, Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong, Nguyen Trong Quynh, Le Vu… and the poetry collection "Dien Bien Phu Victory, Dien Bien Phu Poetry," a selection of outstanding poems that have stood the test of time and evoke many emotions in readers.
In addition, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced the book "70 Questions and Answers about the Dien Bien Phu Victory". This is a useful guide for readers who want to learn about history in an accessible way, including short questions and answers about place names, tactics, campaigns, historical significance, heroes, martyrs, etc.
