On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), many books on this topic have been introduced to readers.

Recently, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduced to readers a set of 17 works with the desire to contribute to reminding the younger generation of a time of war, being proud of the Vietnamese spirit, being grateful to previous generations, and appreciating the peace we are living in today.

The most special among the publications released on this occasion is the book “Sketches in the trenches - War diary of a young soldier in the Dien Bien Phu campaign” by artist - war reporter Pham Thanh Tam, published for the first time in Vietnam. The Vietnamese edition uses design materials and images from the English edition published by Asia Ink Publishing House in 2005. The entire diary is retyped from the author's 1954 diary copy. When printing this work, Asia Ink Publishing House affirmed: Pham Thanh Tam's sketches are rare documents left from the battlefield. The fragile images on the notebook pages make us feel the talent of a young artist sketching the beauty in a battle that journalist Bernard B. Fall called "a corner of hell".

“Dien Bien Memories” is a collection of short stories that selects good works written about Dien Bien such as “The Black Prisoner” (Nguyen Dinh Thi), “Pulling the Cannon” (Chu Phac), “Breakthrough” (Vu Cao), “The Bomb Disposal Soldier” (Ho Phuong)… thereby depicting the portrait of the soldiers “going to the Dien Bien festival” who, no matter how difficult it was, “they were determined to go, without fear or hesitation”.

Contributing to helping readers, especially young readers, better understand the glorious past of the nation, Kim Dong Publishing House has launched many picture books with elaborate investment in fine art. We can mention the work "Telling the Story of Dien Bien Phu" by writer Huu Mai with elaborate illustrations by artist Nguyen The Phuong or the three books "Young Heroes" clearly and vividly depicting the portraits, exploits and heroic sacrifices of three steadfast soldiers in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Phan Dinh Giot, Be Van Dan, To Vinh Dien through concise narratives by authors Hoai Loc, Hieu Minh and color illustrations by artist Le Minh Hai.

Also on this occasion, Kim Dong Publishing House has “put on a new coat” for the outstanding publications about the Dien Bien Phu campaign that have been republished. These are the works “General Vo Nguyen Giap in his youth” by Lieutenant General Pham Hong Cu, “The Dien Bien soldier tells a story” by teacher Do Ca Son, “The story of Hill A1” by author Nguyen Tan, “The other side of the mountain” by writer Xuan Sach, “People and people in layers” by writer Tran Dan, “The crimson standard flag” by writer Ho Phuong, “The watch repairman at tunnel number 1” by writer Huu Mai, the memoir collection “Our Dien Bien Phu” is a selection of works by writers Nguyen Huy Tuong, Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong, Nguyen Trong Quynh, Le Vu… And the poetry collection “Dien Bien Victory, Dien Bien Poetry” is a selection of outstanding poems, “following the years”, evoking many emotions for readers.

In addition, Kim Dong Publishing House also introduces the book “70 questions and answers about Dien Bien Phu Victory”. This is a useful handbook for readers who want to learn about history with a close presentation including short questions and answers about places, tactics, campaigns, historical significance, heroic examples, martyrs, etc.
