The name "Hamlet 19/5" is not a coincidence. May 19th is the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh , who dedicated his entire life to national independence and the happiness of the people. Naming the hamlet after his birthday reflects the deep respect and special honor that the Party Committee, government, and people of this area have for him.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Hung, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Khanh Binh commune, recounted: "Before 1982, the hamlet was called Chon Gam hamlet. In 1982, Chon Gam hamlet was merged with Rach Bao hamlet. Around May 10, 1982, when discussing the name for the new hamlet, many opinions suggested that since the congress took place in early May, close to President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, it was unanimously agreed to name the hamlet 19/5."

That name has become a source of pride and a constant reminder for the people here to continuously strive, live well, do good deeds, and study and follow the thoughts, morals, and style of Ho Chi Minh. "Even though people in the South never met Uncle Ho, everyone here wholeheartedly respects him. Naming it this way is not only for the present generation but also so that future generations will always remember Uncle Ho," Mr. Hung shared.

According to Mr. Hung, previously the hamlet didn't have a single brick house; most were makeshift thatched huts. Following President Ho Chi Minh's example, the people competed in labor and production to improve their lives. "This area is purely agricultural; in the past, we only grew one rice crop per year. When we encouraged people to switch to two crops, it was very difficult at first because the people were already poor and feared the conversion wouldn't be effective and they would lose their rice seeds. At that time, Party members had to lead the way, and those with land converted on their own. When they saw the results, the people started to follow suit. Thanks to that, income increased, and living standards improved significantly. Back then, the hamlet didn't even have a dirt road. We mobilized the people to pour red soil to build a road, with each household contributing a section 1.5 meters wide and 3 meters long. Thanks to that, children had a road to go to school, and people could travel without getting muddy," Mr. Hung recounted.

Over the years, the local government and people have always been united, striving to build a new cultural life, develop production, maintain security and order, and care for education , health, and social welfare. Everyone, every family, has joined hands to build their homeland. Poverty reduction efforts have yielded positive results, children receive a full education, and the rural landscape is becoming increasingly beautiful and clean. All of this is vivid evidence of the realization of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings.

The sturdy, well-maintained concrete roads create favorable conditions for improving the material and spiritual lives of the local people.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Tham, Head of Hamlet 19/5, shared: “The hamlet completely eliminated poverty by the end of 2024. Currently, there are only 3 near-poor households, who have received support to build houses and are expected to escape poverty by the end of this year. As a descendant, I am very proud and grateful for the achievements that our ancestors have built. In my role as hamlet head, I hope to contribute my efforts to help the people build a richer and more beautiful homeland.”

Walking around Hamlet 19/5 today, one can easily feel the significant changes: tiled roofs have replaced the makeshift houses, smooth concrete roads have replaced the muddy paths of the past, and the people are enthusiastically working and producing. Mr. Pham Trong Si, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Khanh Binh Commune, said: “Besides rice farming, people in Hamlet 19/5 also utilize the ponds for fish farming, using short-term gains to support long-term goals, and it has been very effective. Now this hamlet is the most developed in the commune; in every household, you hear people talking about their plans to develop the economy , planting this crop, raising that animal... to increase their income.”

As a former revolutionary activist and a member of the Veterans Association of Hamlet 19/5, Mr. Du Hoang Viet has always been at the forefront of production. “When I was healthy, I did all sorts of jobs, both to increase my family's income and to teach my children and grandchildren. Now that I'm old, I've retired to guide my children,” Mr. Viet said with a gentle smile. Thanks to his dedicated guidance, his children have continued the achievements he left behind. The thriving fish ponds and vegetable gardens are the result of countless days of his tireless labor.

Learn from Uncle Ho, the war veterans in the commune, to engage in productive work and set an example for their children and grandchildren to follow.

Mr. Pham Trong Si passionately stated: “Inheriting the patriotic traditions of our ancestors and proud of our homeland with a place name as meaningful as Hamlet 19/5, our generation is always clearly aware of our responsibility, continuing to promote the spirit of unity, patriotism, and wholeheartedly serving the people, further improving the material and spiritual lives of our people.”

For the residents of Hamlet 19/5, with over 350 households, without anyone telling them to, every house proudly displays a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh. This serves as a reminder and expression of their boundless gratitude to the beloved President, reflecting their aspirations and actions to learn from and follow his example, steadfastly supporting the Party, and contributing to the development and progress of their hamlet.
