| The author, Nguyen Van Huy, was born in 1972 and is currently the Deputy Principal of Long Hung Primary School, Long Phu Ward, An Giang Province. |
With a camera given to him by a friend, he began taking photos. Although he didn't know how to adjust the camera settings or was not yet skilled in photography, he felt inspired by the opportunity to create and express his emotions through photography.
His connection to photography began when he met many members of the Tan Chau (formerly) Town Photography Association, participating in their activities as a supporter. He was later introduced to the Chau Doc Photography Association. From there, he had the opportunity to learn, especially from photographer Cao Minh Det, head of the Tan Chau Photography Association, and photographer Nguyen Hoang Nam, head of the Chau Doc Photography Association. In addition, he independently explored and learned from the internet, accumulating more skills and experience in his creative work.
Having only recently entered the world of art photography , Huy gradually established himself. In 2021, he made his mark with the works "Cham ethnic children going to school during the Covid season," which won second prize, "Peaceful night on the floating village of Long An, " which won third prize, and several other photos exhibited at a photography competition in Tan Chau, qualifying him for membership in the Tan Chau Photography Association. This achievement served as a great motivation for him to continue striving and progress further when he joined the An Giang Provincial Photography Association at the end of 2021, gaining more opportunities for experience.
Some of his notable achievements include: the B prize in the 2021 competition for creating and promoting literary and journalistic works on the theme "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh," organized by the Propaganda Department of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee; having his work exhibited at the "Proud of a Border Region" photo contest in 2022; the B prize in the An Giang Provincial Traditional Photo Contest, the Third prize in the Chau Phu District Photo Contest, and receiving a Certificate of Commendation from the Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee in 2023; the A prize in the "Tan Chau on the Path to Development" photo contest, and the Third prize in the Tinh Bien photo contest in 2024...
Given the nature of his managerial role as a principal of a primary school, he takes advantage of weekends and summer holidays to do things he loves, such as tending his orchard, undertaking numerous charitable trips, donating gifts to Khmer temples in the province, and also dedicating a significant amount of time to photography.
The remote border region of An Giang offers countless themes for him to unleash his creativity: the flooded rice fields of Tan Chau; the traditional bull racing festival; the vast rice paddies of Ta Pa; Mount Sam hidden in the clouds; the Cham people's brocade weaving; the pristine caves of That Son; the blooming melaleuca flowers, the shadows of the palm trees...
Nguyen Van Huy shared: "Photography is a hobby that brings joy and relaxation after days of work at school. The best part is accompanying fellow photographers from within and outside the province on photography trips."
