The value derived from traditional crafts
In the early summer days, amidst the rolling tea hills shrouded in morning mist, many tourists flock to Bao Loc not only for relaxation but also to seek the slow-paced, peaceful atmosphere of a highland region that still retains its pristine beauty.
In recent years, tourist trends have changed significantly. Instead of simply sightseeing, many people are seeking deeper experiences of local culture, people, and lifestyles. This presents an advantage for Bao Loc in particular, and the southern part of Lam Dong province in general, to leverage the unique values of tea, silk, and high-tech agriculture into distinctive tourism products.
“Bao Loc is a region famous for its culture and history closely associated with tea and silk. If we can develop in-depth experiential activities where tourists can transform themselves into artisans and directly participate in the production process, it will certainly leave a more lasting impression,” shared Mr. Tuong Huu Loc, Director of Tam Anh Da Lat Joint Stock Company.
No longer just selling products, many tea, coffee, and silk production facilities in Bao Loc have begun opening their doors to visitors for tours and experiences. Tourists can try their hand at picking tea leaves, processing tea, learning about the silk weaving process, or enjoying hot cups of tea amidst the lush green tea hills. These simple experiences have become a major draw for many families and young tourists.
According to Mr. Hoang Dinh Khai, Chairman of the Southern Lam Dong Tourism Association, this area has great potential for ecotourism, resort tourism, exploring local culture, tea and coffee villages, agricultural tourism, green tourism, and healing tourism. Currently, the association has expanded its membership to include units in the Ham Thuan - Da Mi lake area to create a new experiential route in the southern part of the Lam Vien plateau. From vast lakes and lush green mountain roads to ecotourism and resort destinations, this journey is opening up more options for nature-loving tourists.

Improving the quality of destinations
Amidst this development, the land of tea and silk is still finding its own path. Without the hustle and bustle, Bao Loc chooses to captivate visitors with the tranquility of the highlands, the cultural values of traditional crafts, and experiences that connect visitors with local life.
“Our greatest aspiration is for Bao Loc to become a center connecting the tourism values of Southern Lam Dong . To achieve this, businesses must innovate their customer service mindset, collaborate for mutual development, and enhance the destination's capabilities,” Mr. Hoang Dinh Khai shared.

In recent years, many businesses have also begun to invest more systematically in experiential tourism. From homestays amidst tea hills and eco-resorts to cafes that combine cultural experiences, this area is gradually developing many new tourist destinations.
Mr. Tran Khoa, a representative of a tourism agency in Ho Chi Minh City, said that after many years of organizing tours in Bao Loc, he has noticed that the locality now has many new destinations, enough to encourage tourists to stay for at least two days and one night instead of just passing through as before. “Bao Loc has begun to have its own unique attractions to draw tourists in. However, the locality still lacks nighttime economic activities or large-scale entertainment products to enhance the experience and revenue for tourism,” Mr. Khoa said.

Along with positive signs, tourism in Southern Lam Dong still faces many challenges, especially the problem of defining a suitable and sustainable development direction. In reality, many establishments currently focus on transitioning from production and business activities to tourism, and are therefore still struggling with how to organize services, provide customer service, and create experiences for tourists. Meanwhile, modern tourism trends demand that each destination not only have unique products but also tell its own story, clearly identify its target customer group, and create sufficiently distinctive and memorable experiences to retain tourists.
According to Ms. Duong Thi Hien, Deputy Head of the Tourism Management Department of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the current challenge for tourism in Southern Lam Dong is no longer simply increasing the number of tourists, but more importantly, improving the quality of products and services. To achieve this, it is necessary to focus on training human resources, strengthening skills training for tourism workers, and meeting the increasingly high and diverse demands of tourists.
Each product needs to be improved in quality to justify the price paid by customers. At the same time, the locality also needs to re-evaluate its unique characteristics in order to exploit them more systematically, creating attractive and distinctive products.
