For Android users, Samsung has always been one of the leading smartphone manufacturers thanks to its many exclusive features such as Secure Folder, Air Actions, and Private Share. This is complemented by the advantages of the Galaxy smart home ecosystem.
However, when looking to buy a Samsung phone, users can easily become confused by the different product lines such as A, S, and Z. While the Z series is easily recognizable with foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold7, many people still wonder about the differences between the S and A series.
According to Samsung, the S series has always been prioritized with the company's latest technologies. Meanwhile, the A series targets mainstream users who are looking for a device with good performance for the price.
Differences in price
On its official website, Samsung lists six models in the A series with prices ranging from $200 to $550. Conversely, in the flagship S series, the most affordable version is the Galaxy S25 FE (128GB version) at $650. The most expensive model is the Galaxy S26 Ultra 1TB version, priced at $1,600.
Besides new devices, the company also offers certified refurbished options like the Galaxy S23, starting at $439 – a price even cheaper than a new Galaxy A57 5G.
Practical upgrades
Despite generally having smaller battery capacities, S-series models are significantly more power-efficient thanks to their high-end chips. For example, the Galaxy A55 5G boasts a 5,000 mAh battery, providing approximately 28 hours of wireless video playback. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25, despite having only a 4,000 mAh battery, still achieves up to 29 hours of video playback.

As high-end devices evolved, the A series also inherited similar technologies after a while. In 2016, Samsung first brought the IP68 water/dust resistance standard to the Galaxy S7. Just a year later, this feature appeared on the Galaxy A series (A3, A5, and A7). Currently, IP68 has become a common standard for both product lines.
Fast charging technology has also followed a similar trajectory. The 45W super-fast charging feature, first introduced on the S20 Ultra (in 2020), is now available on both the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A57.
In 2026, Samsung launched the Galaxy A57 5G, boasting an impressive camera system and Galaxy AI features previously exclusive to the S series. Although the price is no longer as affordable as its predecessors, the A57 5G offers competitive specifications, capable of competing with older S series models.

Which model should I choose?
When choosing between the two models, users need to accurately assess their actual needs, lifestyle, and personal budget. The more expensive device isn't always the better choice.
The Galaxy A series is more suitable if you don't need the S Pen, wireless charging, or a very powerful processor. For basic needs like browsing the web, using social media, and texting, the A series handles everything smoothly. This is also a suitable series for older people who don't require extremely high processing performance.
Conversely, if you want a flagship phone with powerful specifications and an excellent camera but have a limited budget, the Galaxy S24 Ultra remains a very good option two years after its release, while the current standard S24 version has lost some of its appeal.
Ultimately, if finances aren't a barrier, the latest S-series models guarantee you the most powerful hardware on the market at the time of purchase. This is considered a worthwhile long-term investment, ensuring the device maintains smooth performance for years to come as applications become increasingly demanding.
