I am a 56-year-old male residing in Long Xuyen, An Giang . For the past few months, I have been experiencing pain in my right shoulder, radiating down my arm. It is very difficult and painful to bend my arm behind my back. I had X-rays of my cervical spine and shoulder joint, but no disease was detected. Please advise me on what to do next or where to seek treatment? ( dinhgia@...)
The symptoms you describe are typical of periarthritis of the shoulder. In these patients, there is no damage to the bones and joints of the shoulder, so X-ray images of the shoulder joint may be completely normal. The pain and limited range of motion in the shoulder joint are due to damage to the ligament system, possibly chronic inflammation or ligament stiffness. You should go to the hospital for an examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the shoulder joint for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
